Torque wrench.

Basically, i've been given a torque wrench for xmas (nice!!!) but have no idea how to use it - any help???

You dial in the torque setting by twisting/rotating the end and then you lock it - fine.

now when you put a socket on the end and use it as a wrench - what is it surposed to do?? how do i know the setting has been reached or if i am going over????

any help would be of use!

thanks

standard procedures for me...
loosen the bolts
jack the car up
tighten it by hand
then lower the car down
tighten it by the torque wrench to the torque setting that you have set until it clicks
this is what i do usually when i change to my race tires...

i do 75ft/lb for my car, althought it recommends 66 only i think by renault
i did it because it was 90ft/lb for my audi and i m thinking, hmmm, is 66 enough?

anyways, i heard that over torque the wheels shouldnt hurt unless all 5 bolts are at different torque setting...

Don't forget to put the wrench back to minimum load after you use it, elsewise you destroy it in no time. Except offcourse if they gave you a real one, some models of Stahlwille which don't work by menas of turning up a springload.

And don't double or triple 'click' - one click indicates that you have reached the desired torque.
