THROTTLE BODY

Has anyone had any experiances changing there Mk1 throttle body to a Mk2, there both Bosch units both have 6 connections labled 1-6 although there different plugs.

I know there is a calibration procedure when you change the throttle body, just want to know if anyone had any issues and if so what and how to get round them.

Did it work without the remap? I know it wouldnt be right but did it self calibrate as per the manual instructions?

To be honest if it can self calibrate the gains will be so low its not worth the spend - you'd get a bigger variance going out in cold weather!
I believe you also need a mk2 plenum as the bolt pattern may be different

Hi Mike

I have the TWR development penum and the bigger throttle body, but just wanted to see if anyone had done it b4 and if any issues had popped up when just refitting.

I will let everyone know how it goes.

Cheers guys

I think I will have to just see what happens, worst case is I temp fit the 50mm Mk1 onto the 75mm plenum until I get the cash to remap the new one.

Fingers X

the mk1 was 63mm from memory?? - the Mk2 74mm

Which in flow term is a reasonable jump, 50 -75 would be huge and initial throttle response would be challenging

Damax tried to run mine from the standard ecu intially and it was a lot of grief.......
We then opted to put the MoTeC on earlier than planned but it allowed the thing to work.
I don't think you will get the standard Mk1 ecu to run the bigger TB and still have it driveable.
Throttle will feel like it's off or 100% on at the slightest touch. "Challenging" as Mike says!!

German engineering is great the tolerance variation between the 2 was nothing, let it self calibrate and it seems to work fine.

Happy Days!

The plugs were different and the pin connections dont match number for number.

I found that all cables matched up colour to colour apart for there was a black wire on the bigger throttle body plug which went to the thicker pink of the OEM Mk1 harness.

Similar to running differnt cams and standard ECU I imagine. "Delicate right foot required" ;)

Actually when I remember testing it it actually had the motec on then but not calibrated correctly with the throttle body...........
It'll be interesting to see how Simon gets on, if it actually drives, and how.
Can't help feeling none of it is worth it until you get a decent ecu/map though, I think that's planned for later on.
Could even be risky if the ecu can't come up with enough fuel to match the extra air getting in there........
