Thoughts on buying an Alfa 159 ?

Hi lovlies! Looking for your thoughts on the Alfa's? As you may or may not know, I work at an independent Alfa specialist who have turned my head for the gorgeous 159. Now, I see alot of these on the ramp and a lot suffer from Rust like you would not believe! This is on even 2011 car's I've seen ... Seems the norm for them tbh.

Then I look at our 200, the underside is immaculate! No rust at all. (2009)

John hates the gearbox on the 200, he just can't get on with it, and lets be honest I think John is a little old to be driving around in a hot hatch now (except the sexy vee that is) I think the 159 would suit him better, and I'd like a more mature car now tbh. I'm fed up with boy racers too, lol.

Am I mad? Ideally a diesel but would really like a Ti but not sure if they come in the 1.9 that we may consider. I need to talk with our sales guy more.

Choices choices. Or do I stick with the 200?

I'd have a well spec'd 159 over a 200 if I already had 2 vee's in the garage. No brainer.

To be honest, if they rust like you say they do what are you thinking about??! Yes, they do look nice but they won't seem so appealing when at the next MOT "abit of welding" will be a common occurrence. No amount of detailing will solve that either! iolin:

I think I'd want my daily to be a trouble-free as possible. On that basis alone, an Alfa would not make the shortlist... no disrespect btw - beautiful cars.

Bro in law had the 1.8 turbo petrol in "Quantum of Solace" spec (black 19" alloys) a while back. Looks wise it was beautiful - with the interior smelling of reassuringly expensive leather......had a turbo go very early on his ownership; fixed under warranty.

He sold it shortly after, case of really liking the looks, but little else.

As others have mentioned, the Alfa 159 is a good looker. So too are the Brera, GTV etc.

However, as with all front-wheel drive Alfas, which were created after Fiat took over Alfa in the mid 80's, they are not very good. Reliability and robustness has been a problem - cracking engines though, the 3.0 V6 of the 80's/90's being a particular favourite of many.

Mate had one and I worked on it a few times for him, it was a complete nightmare and parts are just so expensive.
The front suspension and bush set up is a joke and nothing comes apart and you end up changing things you don't have to for that reason.
I do like the look of them but that's about it.

I would buy an another alfa at a drop of a hat, had a sprint and a spider both had issues but you either get them or you don't, I miss driving my alfa's as much as m s1 exige. Had better built and faster cars but dont miss them like the alfa's!
