The perfect exhaust

I've decided to put my engineering skills to good use and design the perfect exhaust for our cars. My current exhaust sounds great and produces some extra HP, but it's not a tuned exhaust and was built by a company who (like others) put pipes together until the exhaust is made.

I intend on designing an exhaust that is tuned to either 3600 rpm or 6500 rpm, that I can decide upon at a later date depending on which is more feasable (fits best). But the prior increasing power around the gear change and the later increasing power nearing the peak rpm.

I need to know the stroke and rod length to calculate diameter and length of the exhaust.

But before I do any of the designing, does anybody know of a company who's produced exhausts for our cars based on knowledge rather than experience?

Matt

Would this assist ;LINK

IIRC there's quite a bit of info on the interweb, but it takes some searching (don't search for a 'long pipe' or it could take even longer!!!!) 8)

Yes, that's great, I was going to do the calculations manually but that should cut things down a little!

I just need the details specific to our engine now :)

Orbisoud produced the trophy exhaust system and manifold sets for Renault. I'd hazard a guess in saying that they must have been designed and tested to be as near perfect as possible for a tansverse V configured engine.

Just visited Orbisoud yesterday and these guys are amazing artists with exhaust [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Interesting project Matt! Keep us updated!

I've done a few calculations on modifications that should improve my current exhaust. I'll do the work and check the results, if everything goes wrong I think I'll leave it to those with experience :)

*EDIT: And if things work out, I'll design a system from scratch.

I want a better sound on my V6 (not loud and boomy)
Any updates ?
Where are Orbisound based ? And do u have a phone number ?

Cheers in advance

Based in meriel near Paris. I've added email on your other thread.

Cheers.

I'm getting my car down to Prospeed in three weeks, they will make the adjustments I've calculated and I hope it will work!

I'll let you know how it goes.

I am very interested in the results that you get even if, "it all goes wrong", remember that failures lead to success and power is knowledge, or the other way round. i have done hundreds of hours dyno work and most of it was failures, had it all been a success i would have been done in an hour, keep up the good work and keep us posted.
