The owner has recently posted about the history of the car on v6 passion and given some details on how it came around.

I've pasted a (slightly dodgy) translated version of his post below:

"Hi, I signed up in 2006 on the forum, but did not introduce myself
Well, I'll make up for that. I worked for Renault for many years and and later, also worked at Dieppe. I worked on the A610 engines and I imagined one day id own an Alpine; Meanwhile, I drove a Clio V6 Trophy on the track and after driving the Clio V6 road car, I decided to order one in 2004 ...
So now to the story of the Technical Grey colour choice!

My problem was that I did not like the colors available in the catalog ... But I did like the color of the Megane RS produced in time at the factory in Dieppe.
The clio v6 and the megane RS passed by the same paint booth, so as I know a few guys there, and I asked if there was any technical problem to use this color on the Clio.
In short, I discussed with the project team of the V6, and I offer them to achieve contre-marque (approval type used for special vehicles such as police cars, for example); I contacted the technocentre (renaults research centre) and after explaining my request, we launched the contre-marque for the plant, the production was formalised.

Before the end of 2004 the car was delivered to me! I have never regretted my choice of car colour; gray with blue shades slice well with the wheels and side pods.
The Clio is very pleasant on-road and instead turns out nice on track when conditions are wet ... well, it is sharp but it works ... the limit is a little wild but it is for this reason I appreciate it. In the dry, it is less fun and my past track racer remember that there are slightly more efficient stuff.
Another anecdote: it was very difficult to pay ... in fact the contre-marque was not really under BVP and payment was simply not possible because the vehicle type was not known! From memory, I finally paid the Clio after weeks of deadlock.
attached some pictures, always with the same theme: both manufactured at Dieppe"

Brilliant insight - even for a non owner :approve:

Much better information than whether the chassis numbers were stamped up or down - little joke there for those that know ;)

Thanks for posting that Duncan. Explains why no others were made that colour! What a beautiful looking car tho ;)

Brilliant to hear the history of this one off car! Thanks for sharing it Duncan [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

I love how Renault are prepared to go the odd one off car like this from time to time, [smilie=yay.gif]

I bet he was slightly miffed when another one appeared over the channel :-)

You can say that again! I had no idea of the length he went to in order to achieve his preferred colour choice.

When your car was fully stripped back Kett (when Tim owned it) that would have been an ideal time to change the colour to something else as all panels were removed etc. so would have been as close to OEM as possible. I might have the CD of pics somewhere it was a superb job :approve:

I suppose Steve building his car from the base that he did also gave the opportunity to fully paint the car during it's colour change - it was still quite a length to go through though and under much different circumstances.

If you're going to re-spray a Vee then definitely do it properly. The job Steve did on the UK Technical Grey was totally stunning.
