SUSPENSION TOP RUBBERS

New Member
has anyone changed the top rubber suspension mounts on the front mk 2 (look like doughnuts) , if so are they the same as std clio, they look the same but as always until you get it stripped you cannot be sure?
james, do you know this? do they have the same part no as std clio, i can get these from motor factors for the 182 and the diesel but the v6 is not listed and it is the same turret. also a price if you have got one james

I looked at the vee parts [album]1728[/album]
and item 4 is the same as on Matt's 172 Cup LINK
4) Part number : 6000073600
£46.44 inc vat Renault Retail Price

and also the same on Dawn's old 182

The 182 also has a part number for top mount service kit

543A09780R
£37.00 that includes the rubber which is £46 on its own :s

thanx all, am gona stick with the std setup, as i dont like the idea of cutting or drilling where it can be seen. cannot believe these are so kippered with low miles. they were pefect last mot now they are really dangerously hanging out, this is one to watch for. wonder if a top brace would spread the load between the mounts? I'm no expert on this subject, but I remember reading from several different sources that the solid top-mounts can adversely affect the life-expectancy of some of the connected parts (as they are more strongly connected than the rubber ones).

I understand that they give a much more rigid steering feel, but is this not a concern to those who have fitted them?

I'd be very interested to hear thoughts on this, as I don't know that much about this area!

Phil.

Some comments I found.....

"OK for track use"
"The OEM ones last more than 40K miles"
"Everything else will rattle to f**k"

They are a "consumable" item so yes, over time, they will wear and need replacing.

The new KTEC top mounts are nicely made and fit well. The older style which is actuall a Compbrake part is not so good.

Mark Fish I believe also has a design for top mounts however...

All 3 are solid topmounts - you will get additional noise, vibration etc transmitted into the car and all 3 will require more maintenance in the form of bearing replacement than the OEM mounts.

If the car is primarily used on road then you probably don't need solid top mounts (they do look nice though) and there's no way that you're (I hope) pushing the car on the road hard enough to notice any flexing of the strut towers so you shouldn't need a strut brace tbh.

i have collected the 182 top mount kits from reno, the rubbers and the bearing are the same but other parts are not, also stripped a leg of the damaged car i have and found this is built up in a different way to the one i am repairing.
james do you have an exploded pic of a mk 2 stut, or is it the same as a mk 1 ?
will let you know how and when job progresses.

SPIKE the parts drawings are the same MK1 and MK2.
there seems to be a washer fitted to the top of the strut between the rubbers thats not on the picture, this washer is on both my cars but in different places on both. and yes they are both mk2.
