Surprised to be needing a coil pack

I have been driving my Vee now for the last week (it's usually just parked up under a cover!) and a couple of days ago on the way to work it started misfiring. Took it apart to find the centre coil at the front had failed (unsure wether it's number 3 or 4! Changed all 6 with Valeo ones as I don't want any others to fail and now it's all fine again! I was surprised because even though my Vee's a 2002 ph1, it's only done 16k miles! I know there a common fault but it's far from a lot of miles on it's back!!

Now it's all running good again...... washed again, and under a cover in the garage parked up for winter! [smilie=yay.gif]

I had changed 3 or 4 coils on my phase 1 within the first year (18K). Changed quiet a few on my Phase 2 until the later better coils came along. Put all 6 of the new ones in 2010 and so far all has been well.

I'm on a long journey to Scott's in the morning. Bet I'm going to regret this post

Obviously a really poor original design then! Good to hear that the later coils are better though!

I hope it goes well pal and you don't regret the post, I've kept a couple of the good ones in my fee for spares, just incase!! If you get to leeds and get problems there, I'll let you have as many as you need to keep you going! LOL!

I got the later coils and they failed as well - typically every two years. Someone said possibly heat related eg in Hong Kong it's 35c in summertime etc

Switched to trophy coils fingers crossed no problems so far

Trying not to get paranoid but thinking I should invest in a spare or two for the inevitable!

Valeo website gives the part no. as 245094 and also lists Renault part no. 9633001580. Is this suggesting that the OEM coil is a Valeo coil, or is it simply giving an equivalent? What's a good place to get the Valeo ones from?

It is a must to carry a spare and the correct ratchet/socket. The advice is in the Knowledge. Don't be paranoid but be prepared. I've lost 1 coil in 8 years and it was no great inconvenience because I carry a spare.

Changed all mine when I bought my phase2. Low miles since but last year one went when out and about randomly.
Had a soare coil but not my ratchet extension arm lol
Good job I had cool as RAC no longer carries spares. Beware!
