strut upper mounts/ top mounts

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. I am in the process of changing the top mounts on my V6 and ordered a complete kit from Renault Parts Direct. The kit came with parts for both sides: a new upper spring cup, slim bearing, rubber upper mount and two sorts of strut top nuts that hold the bearing and mount to the strut and prevent the spring coming off and finally two new rubber top cups with captive nuts that mount the strut to the body.

The parts I'm not sure about are the two types of nuts holding the mount to the strut. One is a little nut, same as the part that came off but the other is a large nut with a thread. I assumed this was an updated part and used that but now theres not enough strut coming through the body for the upper/outer mount to thread onto. anyone know what the addition threaded nut is for?

RPD did this to me aswell! Had to get another part iirc! (Old boy fitted) Seems they haven't learnt from last time!!

Hi thanks for your replies. Spent an hour or two on the net and figured it out. I was led to believe that the V6's strut top mounts were different to 172/182 Clios. However all the parts that came off are identical to the pictures Ive seen on the net of these other Clios. Top mounts for those have been updated with a modified part, instead of a spacer on the strut and a nut, the spacer/nut is now one assembly and is taller. This means a new style top cap too. RPD have supplied all the new bit except the new style top caps.

Now hopefully I can swap the upper caps for the new part, the only thing I'm not sure about is whether the new parts are an update for the V6 too or I should be fitting new "old" style parts. This will me redoing the whole job.....

Hi Paul,

I have left messages for you to call me back.
It seems you have supplied the new kit but with the old top cup mount. The old top cup is larger in depth or height than the new one.
The new top cup is smaller in height and comes with a locking nut.
