is the belt loose? or not enough fluid?
If not it can be several things, Pump internal leak, steeringrack internal leak, both require a bit of mechanic work.
PAS pump is on a bracket attached to the engine block. If you're looking at the car from the rear the pump is down on the right hand side "conveniently" in between the block and the fuel tank.
Harry, wouldn't James have noticed other symptoms if the belt was loose as my cloudy memory suggests that the PAS belt is the auxilliary belt? (Think the belt runs alternator, aircon pump and PAS pump).
The fluid reservoir is visible by looking under the engine cover on the rhs - it has max and min marks on it so it should be easy to see if it's low.
