Stelvio Pass

Just a practical note to state that the bends are too tight for a Vee… I was there today as a passenger in a 612 Scaglietti (and it was tricky in that!) GR Yaris recommended!

I agree, we went up in a Transit van and it was too tight, with a better side of it teaching you how to reverse. i'm surprised its still clear? we went in early may and it was snowed out.

Hotel Gallia, where we stayed over (at the foot of the ascent) was closing at the end of last week. We were in the nick of time really.

Yes, I didn't really grasp how bad the weather was, and for how long. You could access from the Italian end quite easy but the other end near Switzerland was blocked with road works so access was only through Italy unless you wished to pay the Swiss tax to use about a mile of their road, and of course they were stopping every foreign car to collect the toll at the border (east end). there are some nice larger passes at Innerwalten just north east of the Stelvio, still with stunning scenery.
