Steering wheel wiring

Brad

Member
Just tried fitting my new 172 style wheel to replace my tatty original wheel and found that the air bag connector is different so I need the small section of cable found in the wheel for the new type any help please?
My original air bag connector is a very small orange circular style plug with cut outs top and bottom

hello
does anybody know if the internal piece of wiring in the steering wheel available from reno [smilie=thanks.gif]

I can't help...
...but I know a man who can.
Give Paul Temperton a call at Renault Parts Direct. ; )

Get on ebay mate.

Loads of clio stalks/squibs for sale. All about £20.

You will find they all fit because you can interchange the squibs.

Dpnt buy one from Renault they are £90 - i know because my aftermarket steering wheel horn melted the wiring and i learnt the expensive way.

Thanks Mossy
the 1st link looks to be the one thats on the car at the moment. so ill give the second one a try are these easy to replace?

Quite easy mate but can be a little fiddly.

Basically you have to remove everything around the squib including steering wheel, plastic covers top and bottom, stereo controller etc, leaving just the wiper and indicator stalk attached to the squib.
Then there is a torq screw at the base of the squib that needs removing.
Then there is a small catch at the top of the squib that needs pushing in whilst lifting the squib over a small bracket on the top end of the steering column. (Hard to explain but this is what caught me out on my first removal attempt.)
The squib is now free to pull forward but you will have to disconnect both stalk wiring blocks and a wiring block at the base to remove it fully.

Refitting is the reverse of the above.

NB: As with any airbag/steering wheel removal please be careful and always disconnect the battery and leave for 30mins before handling an airbag system.

Thanks for th info. ill probably be giving this a go on the weekend, have I got to do anything to make sure its in the same position as the wheels?

Can anyone help with info on the removal of the steering wheel from a mk1, and what banana skins, if any, to avoid? [smilie=thanks.gif]
