Starting after stood for 9 months

My car has being stood for 9 months, and may even be there a few more. I am going to change the oil and filter as part of a service. Should I start it up lte the oil warm and collect and contaminates, then change the oil. Or drop it out first, change the oil then start it???

maybe best to drop it now with it having 9 months of the oil draining to the bottom with all the contaminates included as starting it up might spread them around more and i would imagine 9 months of draining wil be better than a few days????
Its not as if more wear contaminates have accumulated from the car sitting still...

but dont take my word for it tbh i am not very mechanically minded to say the least

Good point, but 'IF' any inner parts have any trace of rust on them, from the engine sweating, the circulating oil will pick it up and get it to the filter.

It's not the end of the world, as what ever you decide to do it'll be fine.

PS, I had to leave my Volvo 850-R, in a car park, at RAF Brize Norton for 4 months, whilst I went to the Falkland Islands. Apart from a flat battery, it was thumping back across to Norfolk within the hour, sweet as a nut! :race:

Start it up and get it up to running temp mate. This will thin the oil and pick up all the particals collected in hard to get places and allow ALL of the oil to drain quickly.

:approve: :approve: :approve: sounds best to me, another option is drain and fill with a cheaper oil, bring to temp then change again, a question not asked is: whats the oil like thats in it, or even , has it got any in? if it looks clean use mossy's answer, if its black, or not got any in flush and refill. (of course only bother with the filter on the last change).
