We have owned our Clio since new, apart from coil packs and brake pad material it's been faultless, that is until late 2014, when it struggled to start. I put a new Renault battery on despite thinking it was an earthing problem.
In the end due to many toys and not enough time we put Clio on a sorn, but started it every few months, which it did, but on occasions sounded as if struggling.
Anyway, before I waffle on, I decided to put car back on road, it was starting fine and all seemed well apart from all the washers. Why would you put pumps and tank in such a place when the fronts not packed! I managed to fix one pump by shaving down rubber in divert piston and fitted a new one.
MOT passed and car started throughout test fine. Get home, left car to cool down before putting away and it wouldn't start, and hasn't this morning. There appears to be high drain when starter activated so I guess started has gone.
Question, what is the preferred make starter and where is best place to source as not keen on or valeo.
On a seperate issue anyone recommend Renault dealer or recognised specialist North Lincs area.

Belated welcome SJ!

Starter motor is one of the few niggles which can appear during ownership. A quick search should answer all your queries.

Thanks for response, I did research and it's thanks to the excellent post by Jim Green that I am happy it's not a connection problem. I find it hard to think a car that's done 27k miles needs a new starter, I had a Alpine GTA for 17 yrs before I gave it to my daughter, who ran it for a few years. It's the same albeit different spec douvrin PRV sat in back and almost every ancillary was either replaced or overhauled with the exception of the starter. They don't make them like they used to!
I'll give renaultparts a ring to see if the item they list is oe and/or if they've improved specs.

Yes and no, I have just replaced the Alternator and Water pump on my 21 Turbo after 26 years of service (starter still fine & original) yet my R9 I might as well include them as service items with the oil and filter!
