Soundproofing

Hi guys, I've just finished making myself soundproofing to fit under the covers of my V. I've got a loud exhaust fitted and it's been a bit of a pain. The Mrs hated how loud it was. I decided to try and fix the problem using dense foam. I ordered a huge roll from the net and cut it to shape. All I can say is even I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is!

My Mrs was chuffed to bits, we popped out for a drive earlier and I said to her "I can drive faster now without you telling me to slow down, you only think we're going fast because of the noise", she said "no, I'll still be able to tell!". Less than five minutes later I started laughing and told her to look at the speedo - 130mph. I couldn't stop laughing!

Anyway, it's really made driving a hell of a lot more pleasurable! I'll be going to Renault World Series so if anybody wants a demonstration - in my car or theirs, I'm happy to do that. I'll be selling them cut to shape for £60.

Cheers, Matt.

Nice idea and good to see a comprehensive video! I think your comment about cutting it for engine access would be the most practical solution for most although would affect the acoustic integrity. It's most efficient as you currently have it.

My only fear is addition heat? Insulation will keep the heat inside the engine bay. Might be potentially a bad thing? Especially if on a long run on a hot day. Guess you will find out over time!

Cheers guys :)

I don't think heat is going to be an issue, it's just as hot in the cabin now as it was before. The only drawback I can see is just access to the engine, but if I found that an issue, I'd just cut the foam.

I'm not pushing for sales really, it's just an option if anybody needs it!

Hmm, wish I tried this before passing up my QS sport... it did go to a good catalunya home though. 8)

Great video and great idea! What exhaust do you have? Is it just replacement backbox?

It's custom made from Prospeed Exhausts.
It has 2" manifolds and sports free flow cats.

No wonder it sounds so good! I might be in the market for a new back box, QS seems to be the preffered option by looking on here but I can't decide on the Sports or Supersports. Does the Sports make a noticeable difference over the standard noise? (sorry don't mean to go slightly off topic...) :)
