Secret lock on my 19 16v cab

I have noticed for a while I have a somthing like a door lock barrel inserted into the roof of my glove box. It's just left of the bit the catch clips on to and a key can be inserted to turn it.

I have no idea what it does... but I remember when I bought my car the trader gave me a small bunch of keys with a tag with my reg on which I put in a drawer at my mums and forgot about. I put 2 and 2 together earlier and realised the keys were for this secret lock in the glove box :D. I drove to my mums (8 miles away) to find the keys and she's binned them or as she said "I've not seen any keys" Hmmmmmm :x.

So i'm never going to be able to find out what it's for... Any ideas?

Did the 19 ever have extra security devices fitted?

I remember the keys were about an inch long, domed at the end and a small slit in it with dimples.

There is that key slot there, also sometimes some at the bottom of the centre of the dash plus one in engine bay I think it was. Think its an immobiliser but wouldn't advise mucking around with them

both my cabs have this in the same location, one of them is fully functioning as an imob the other one was bypassed before i got it

I thought it might have been something like that, and yes the keys were small and gold. Would have been handy to use but I can't since losing the keys.

cheers for letting me know (y)

Thought it might have been for a secret passenger ejector seat, could have come in handy for the mrs ;)

it also turns the little led on top of the plastic cowling over the indicator switch think they was only fitted to the higher end of the range ,my 19 prima wasnt fitted with 1
my new cars got 1 but i aint got a key to it whould i be able to get 1 from the main dealer from the reg of the car ? i allways add my own ,cut the wire to the stop solonid join both ends to twin core cable going to a hidern switch at the other end

dont think a dealer could get you one but i reckon you could just change the barrel in that and use a new key
