Megane Scenic 111 Reverse lights not working.

Hi Peeps,

I have a Scenic 111, 1.9DCi, 6 speed manual, that has failed MoT due to no reverse lights. Nothing it is supposed to do in reverse works, Rear Wipe, Camera, Lights, Sensors etc. It does reverse.....

I'm having trouble locating a fuse that may control all of the above, the internet is surprisingly devoid of any Renault info.

I have replaced the Reverse Switch on the box hoping that it would sort it out, unfortunately it seems to have made no difference.

It is also dropping the electric handbrake off when i press the accelerator as if it is in gear, although it isn't.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will have some more pointers.

I could do with fuses to check, reset procedure, anything else that could be to blame.

Starting to pull my hair out, any help appreciated.

Inop reverse lights aren't an MOT fail are they? I've never, ever seen any tester check reverse lights, ever.

They are now, depending upon the vehicle age. I didn't know until it failed. More stupid ideas to get at motorists.......

Sorry for the late reply, been away and my phone doesn't like this website for some reason?
As there appears no reverse lights, wiper or camera it is possible that the fuse has blown or the MOSFET has been triggered depending on the electrical architecture of the vehicle.
A first check is to disconnect the reverse switch and to check the after ignition feed with the engine running to the gearbox switch, this normally yellow & in the centre, but please be careful not to force the multimeter probe into the terminal as this can badly damage the terminal ability to make contact when re-plugged (suggest using a small paper clip flattened to 0.7mm thick 1mm wide)
If there is no electrical feed you will have to check the traditional fuses in the engine bay computerised fuse board which is in the box mounted to the left hand inner wing and is a pain to access as it involves removing the battery, battery surround if fitted & the large capacity fuse boards that can be mount to the surround. the actual fuse board (UPC) is inside the box and is generally fitted upside-down with clips that are very reluctant to release, and once released the board slips out and fuses can be checked. If you are lucky some one has already been there and broken a few clips which will make it easier.
if MOSFET fuses have been triggered it's a diag tool job, but the cause of the trigger has to be found first

If there is a after ignition feed on the yellow wire, bridge out each of the other wires in turn with the yellow wire & check the reverse light, camera etc if there is reverse light operation it is a faulty new switch (not unknown with no OE parts)
If there is no light or camera when bridging the wires the problem is further in to the vehicle wiring loom or at the rear light unit itself which can fill with water and cause the systems to throw a wobbly.

This is only a basic description as there are variances depending on equipment fitted, electrical layout (what is computer controlled etc) and build date but I hope it helps

Sorry to dig up and old one, trying to get to the bottom of my issue(s) both on a MY12 kangoo and MY05 megane.

The Kangoo - it all started when one of the rear number plate bulbs went, due to design they are open to water ingress. I tried to bodge the connector and ended up having the wires touch and shorting. This then started to fail other bulbs such as the ones in the fan control unit and N/S side light. It turned out to be something in this upside down fuse bored. But since fixing all lights are working apart from the reverse light. I replaced the switch with no success.

I will try and see if there is power to the plug and when you mention bridging the yellow do you mean by using something to bridge the connector to create a loop on the plug such as a wire in both sides of the plug?

The Megane - this is new to me and the usual things have been checked with if the wiper works when in reverse and I got it working once as I found a fuse in the glove box had blown. But it didn’t fix it all together. Sometimes it seems the reverse lights work but more often than not they don’t.
