RS Fabrications Exhaust

Greets all,

Car's been in to RS Fabrications at Fred (BTM Performance)'s recommendation for them to look at the exhaust and subsequently make one for the Vee - if people are interested then I can try arrange some form of group buy? Not sure there'd be a massive discount but it's already cheaper than the Quicksilver and it WILL fit properly. He's taken a while to show me around all his previous works and whatnot and to say his work is fantastic doesn't do it justice:

Let me know if interested - the tails will be ever so slightly larger inrolled 3" thus keeping the stock appearance, and noise should be only slightly more than the standard box - nothing to rival OMG territory!

Mike

Is this just the back box you're talking about guys.. or a complete system.?

Do have any proposed figures you can offer?.. Price.. any gains in performance if its a full system.. weight loss..? etc etc..

How does it compare to the Janspeed full system.. or back box?

Shaun.

Drop me a PM with details of price, numbers, discounts etc and i can help sort out GB thread. Pics of a test unit always help too!

Cheers

For the time being it's just the backbox, however in time I think I'll get the rest of it done. I want it to be fully interchangeable with the standard system, so you can run things like standard manifolds and whatnot. The engine's never going to put out a load more power as the biggest restriction in that bay is cooling, but this is going to be more of an aesthetic than performance goal - saying that a nice plus of it is their previous works have all freed up very good amounts of power as they're used to doing big power systems as well.

All of their welds are done in gas-purged tubes, so no fracturing, no fragility.

Pictures to come from the 18th onwards, as they've got the car for that week to do it. If there is serious interest however, I'll have a word with them about getting a jig made up. If Fred hadn't just spunked for the 2litre exhausts I'd ask him if he wanted to be a part, but I don't know how much there'd be in it for him anyway.

Regards,
Mike

I'm yozzasport UK distributor Mike (we do V6 backboxes too ;))

i use RS fabrications for lots of stuff, they're top bollock !

They've not got any purty pictures of it, otherwise I'd have thought about it! Doh...

It's going from the collector now anyway, so should be a work of art when it's done!

Saw the exhaust yesterday when I popped down, looks extremely good! Will get it back soon hopefully, so will get some pictures up then!

Only a couple of iPhone pictures for now as I've got to wait for Russell to upload the proper pictures, but got a video of it as well. Have to say it's been worth the wait and the money - the work is absolutely fantastic and it looks perfect. Sound is probably a bit marmite, and very difficult to capture on video however when driving it's got a very definite hint of Porsche flat-6 in there for some reason!

The exhaust replaces 2 of the 4 catalytic converters on the V6, leaving it able to breathe a bit better. Once the pictures are up it'll be a bit clearer but it uses two boxes running in a double-pass (in the same side as it goes out!) before connecting to two detachable/adjustable tailpipes.

The popping you can hear is the balance pipe - something I wanted to keep as I wanted it to have hints of the standard system (V6 owners will be able to confirm that as standard it has a popping sound) and I wanted it.

Enough rabbiting until I've got the proper pictures, but:

When I get time to I'll do a drive-by video.

The quality of their work looks bloody great. Judging by what I've read on here and other forums their customer care isn't to shabby either. Nice to know there are decent companies out there like this.

It'll be Interesting to see if it passes an MOT without the second set of cats, and i'm guessing the emssions light will come on eventually.

Good to have another zorst option tho! And quality looks good. :approve:

I wonder if the ECU map needs adjusting tho. [smilie=doubt.gif] You certainly do with no cats at all. :(

How does the vee sense emissions after the second set of cats? I thought the sensor was after the first cats but before the second ones.

Aye, emissions light is very, very clever if it can work that one out as it's after the lambda probes. Should pass an MOT - bear in mind that as far as the emissions test goes the car's got to meet the most basic of requirements. Cars regularly (and convincingly) pass with sports cats (notable comparison the 2litre RS range?) which use 200cell cats. The vee sports one of these (I think?) for each 1.5litre bank - so the second set was purely to help it meet the requirements for Euro IV and a suspicion by RS Fabrications was that it was also to try and reduce noise.

Sounds good on the emissions light, but i'm concerned over the MOT aspect. Can you get it tested? If we go for a group buy and everyone fails the MOT months later all will not be happy on the forum. Running with half the cats removed is definitely a risk to MOT emissions pass IMO. Should be simple / cheap to test tho. ;)

The std cats are not 200 cell cats. The Janspeed system with sports cats are 200cell IIRC. And they light the emissions light, but do pass the MOT when hot.

"a remarkable transformation in performance" it says on their website. I expect you will need it mapped now?

You gotta love the marketing speak. :roflmao:

However if there are proven gains that will really sell it. ;)

Lets get a car RR tested! Before and after fitting ideally. Its not a great expense. Some labour and the cost of 2 power runs. It WOULD make all the difference.

Is this just back box then? Sounds nice and normally via video they don't sound half as good as in the flesh so can only imagine that sounds pretty darn nice for real!

re. failing an MOT test on this, you only need a 'freindly' MOT man and you'll be fine... ;)

Indeed! I have a full decat! ;)

BUT its worth knowing if you need to use such a "service" ;)
