Nice to see that dealers are really customer focused. I phoned Ron Hodgson up today to enquire about both the blue and silver phase 2 cars they have for sale, I don't think I've ever spoken to a more arrogant salesperson. I was told catagorically that I would not be able to test drive either, or any other car they have for sale. So I won't be buying from them then.

I can understand dealers being careful with punters just coming for joy rides, but this is taking the p*ss, I'm a genuine buyer, and who would buy a second hand car without test driving it?

you have to see it from their point of view especially performance car dealers, they must have some real cretins calling hoping to thrash their cars he must have attitude through experience [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] i too have had this kind of attitude towards me as usually when i go looking at cars i have my scruffs on when i pass if i am working near by some give me a brochure and usher me out of the showroom as if to say keep saving sonny.... :rofl:

You can sort of understand why, I think if you went in and had a look at it and they measured you up a test drive wouldn't be a problem.

When i bought mine the guy was like "Yeah, Whatever" on the phone.

But when your there in front of them it usually changes, Then they know your a serious buyer.

From my experience - the higher value the potential purchase the ruder and more incompetent the dealer becomes ! - most of them are absolutely atrocious . My viewpoint is if they're appalling before they have your money what's their attitude going to be like afterwards if you have a problem? Worst I've ever come across are high value classic car dealers - how on earth they stay in business is beyond me !

Loads of people if they know what they are looking for / at.

Spider & both Clio V6's just sold without a test drive. I did take the new owner of the red car for a quick spin.

I just bought a car without even seeing it let alone test driving it...

I deal with car salesmen on a daily basis, Yes some of them can be wankers, Bottom line is all they want is a sale and an easy one too.

If you have a problem then thats up to the service dept to sort out.

They are a funny breed.

Ron has had them Vee's for yonks ( a great word is yonks), so no wonder he's a tad bitter.

He could have sold them for a few grand less and not have had to store them for so long and take up valuable sales space.

Im all for a bit of margin- but he takes the biscuit-

I remember the day when he listed a car 2 days after he bought it off PH - it was illiad blue-
so on Pistonheads you had the car sold via pistonheads for like 15k, then a the next ad above was the same car for 21k

I wouldnt waste my time TBH....

I always have problems buying cars from dealer, yes I dont always look the smartest but I can dress how I want.

I was going to buy a R26-R but the renualt dealer would not give me the time of day, looked me up and down and said I am busy at the mo call back tommorrow !!

Kind of in two minds...Part of me agrees...It stops morons coming along and test driving for the sake of it. But then we alienate the genuine buyers by doing that!

Went into a Ford dealer to buy an Escort Cosworth in Hull back in 95 - cash, I had long hair and jeans on and the salesman was so rude and ignorant towards me I told him so and walked out ... Bought a Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz a few days later from a specialist GT4 Toyota dealer in Surrey - registration was K1ANO ...

Funnily enough though I looked at a Renault 5 Turbo 2 from Hull at the same time as a possible purchase, but it seemed a bit fragile for everyday use and my mind was set on another homologation 4x4 GPA car :approve: but I was a bit limited by choice back then ...

Regardless of circumstance or any business posistion, there is never any excuse for being plain ignorant, rude or arrogant and every customer/buyer should be entitled to drive the car. Whats the harm in the salesman sitting with the driver?

I can see the arguement from both sides but like the post above, I dont see the harm in the salesman being present on any test drive, surely if it gets a sale for them then that's a good thing.

I've not long turned 23 and can't wait to see any dealers face when I find one that ticks all my boxes. Might have to borrow a briefcase and my sisters handcuffs (she's a policewoman before you get the wrong idea) for when i walk into a showroom

times must be hard over at Hodgson's.... prices on both Phase 2's have come down by a grand!
