Retro Skype Phone

While working on the house today i got side tracked as i often do when i came across the original two dial phones that were in my house, true old school.

I couldn't resist doing this as my house is about 200 years old modern stuff really has no place in it.

I don't have a phone line here anymore as i have no need for one but i do love the old phones so i decided to convert them to skype phones.

Here's what i did.

Step 1

Get an old phone.

Step 2

Get a back of wires and electrical tape and crap.

Step 3

There are four wires going to the hand set, the two white ones are audio and the black and red are mic.

Step 4

This is obvious, attach a mic lead with standard jack to the red and black and a headphone lead to the two white ones. Run the wires out the original hole.

Step 5

Talk to people in an old school way.
I was shocked to notice that the sound both mic and ear piece were completely crisp.
Keep it real folks.

good job. Although old phones are worth a bit now.

as for quality, old stuff was built to last and up to a standard, not down to a price like new stuff. Speakers and mics included.

most definitely agreed chris, way higher quality, i didnt gut the phone itself so it would be quite simple to revert it back to the original set up, my reason for not gutting it however was i didnt want it to feel like a cheap hollow piece of modern tribute crap, going to wire it such a way that when the reciever is put down it goes to mute too

i was trying to think how i could do that, i think its impossible but id love to find a way, i also want to make it so that when the hang up button is pressed it goes to mute, i have two made now, one beige and one black

Dude see if you can find a laptop from 60 years back... that will really complete the look :D

top marks for the conversion, to make it ring i would have thought you will need to dismantle a voip usb deskphone and tranplant the innards wich arnt that pricey from ebay.......

actually i have just found myself looking in your pics finding more stuff you could convert like ur inhaler for instance hehehe

i used convert inhalors to smoke wafty in when i was in school, now i use them to help me breathe... the irony of that...

I think to make it ring id need some form of electricity going into the phone to retain the original one but i could use a different tone i suppose
