Renewal Information

Thought I would post my annual experience in case it helps anyone ...

I am insured through skyinsurance, who I have been with for over 5 years with 2 policies, and the underwriting company is Highway. My current premium was just over £500 and my renewal this year came in at £524 - still not bad really. My policy is 7500 miles, protected 'full' no-claims, garaged, CH1 postcode, named driver only, no convictions or claims, 41 YOA, £350 compulsary excess (no voluntary).

I decided to try moneysupermarket.com (co-incidentally they are based about 3 miles away) and entered my details. I got a good set of prices coming back as low as £330 with a £500 voluntary excess - on top of the £350 compulsary excess though. There were at least 10 insurers under the £400 mark with these details but obviously slightly different variations.

So with this information I phoned up Sky and we debated the various excesses and details of some of the quotes. We re-ran the moneysupermarket quote with a more realistic £0 voluntary excess. The lowest figure came in at £428 and a few others below the £500 mark. Still cheaper than the original renewal of £524.

As is really good with Sky, and may other brokers who you can actually speak to and who know you and your cars, they had a look around and came back with a policy wioth Endsleigh at £465 with the same level of cover as I currently have. For me it's not about the cheapest as service counts so I renewed with Sky again.

Clearly the voluntary excess plays an important factor in bringing the quotes down but you have to conside the real value in doing this. Also reducing annual mileage below the 5000 mark is a key trigger point but being realistic I do more than that so want to stay above board with the details rather than just get a cheaper quote.

What excess was the poilcy you went for? And is £465 for the vee and yota?

Cost is for the Vee, with £350 compulsary excess - no voluntary :-) Yota is separate but from the same insurer so I got mirrored and protected NCB on both cars :-)

Their breakdown cover is good too at £50 for full cover including home-start and Europe - this is per car though.

My renewal is due at the beginning of October so i've just tried a quote from Sky Insurance thinking they would probably be quite competative................ How wrong I was [smilie=icon_eek.gif] The cheapest they could get it was roughly £500 more than my renewal!

I'm quite surprised for 2 reasons.....

1. After reading your post Martin I was expecting them to try and look around to find a competative quote but it was basically a fairly abrupt "sorry, cant help"!!
2. Their underwriting company (Highway) is the same as Greenlight's underwriters so why the huge difference?

So basically, not really all that impressed with Sky! You must have a "special" relationship with them Martin

He probably asked for "much cheapness" Suggs, you know what Muffin is like, he'd want a discount on something that had already been reduced by 50% in the sale....!! He's one of lifes CF's.... :D :D

:D
(p.s. they were dire with me too Suggs....)

Maybe I am a lower risk [smilie=bunny_4.gif]

I don't think £465 is the cheapest insurance owners have got on here though but I simply provide the information as it is presented to me. I do have a two car policies with them, and they do underwrite other owners clubs I have been a member of too ...

As we know there are many variables with insurance and hopfully the more experiences we have had can share the easier it is to at least have insurance companies that we have used as Vee owners and can be trusted - whether or not we can all get the same deals as each other ...
