Alpine Renault Avantime 3.0 V6 Rebuild

Hi All,

Been flying under the radar for a while so thought i would post up my latest project !! As I've got a family now your outlook on cars changes to accommodate this hence I've purchased a
3.0 V6 Manual Avantime. ( Family Car Honest ! )

Its got 63K on it, currently has no clutch as the slave has failed, its runs ok on all 6 cylinder!

I've begun to strip it down to replace most of the suspension components as they look like they are been at the bottom of the sea for the last 20 years!

The "" Open Air Experience "" according to Renault

Loads of difference from internals, porting, even different shaped crowns etc etc. but as Nick said technically same engine.

I prefer the sound over the 3.0 V6 in my MK3 grand espace over the 350z 3.5 had in MK4 version but you could feel the extra power and newer auto helped.

I do get tempted to bypass the middle box for some extra noise but sure kids moan on longer trips.....so just left std

Absolutely love this car. Have only seen one on a trip to Normandie 2 years ago. I live in Laguna Niguel, Ca. The most interesting door panels and instrumentation I have ever seen. My little collection consists of 88 Renault Medallion LX 5speed, and 82 Fuego Turbo with 60K miles on the clock. Still standing on the original TRX wheels and tires.
Put a thread up on the Medallion please! (For the casual viewers the US Renault 21 was called the Eagle Medallion)

Thanks Dave for the clarification. The Medallion or R21 normally aspirated was avaialable with a tradional 2.2 ltr. engine and a 5 speed option. I have an LX model with alloy wheels, power everything including the Plip Key Fob sliding sunroof and what the French called the deluxe interior, a signal seeking stalk mounted radio. The car is easy to drive. The AC is above average in cooling you on our hot humid days and nites. Amazingly I get well over 32 mpg. at 80 mph. The car is smooth on the open road and with the addition of overdrive it cruises effortlessly. Renault had it's quirks like all of them do. To bad Iococca couldn't honor the commitent to Renault. The lineup of available models was way ahead of it's time. Dealer support and trained repair shop employees were few and far between. Most mechanics I know at the dealer level would run from this car when it needed anything but minor service..
