Renault 5 Monaco engine options

Hi I recently purchased a Renault 5 Monaco. Great condition, seals and bodywork looks fine. Just would like to replace the engine as I would like to use the car everyday and not just a drive to a car show on a Sunday.
Please advise options and approx costs

lol ok. well pick pretty much any Renault engine fitted to a r5 r19 clio mk1 or clio mk2. all will go in physically quite easily. Depending on your choice will depend how much wiring and stuff is needed.

Doesn’t even have to be a Renault engine, there’s a couple of vag engined 5 or the old school Volvo swap.
Don’t think anybody has ls swapped a 5 yet but there is one in another Renault platform

I am looking to use a renault clio sport 2.0 2005 engine. Does anyone know who can fit for me and what sort of cost am I looking at. Will a 2005 model clio engine work ok

You’d be better with a phase 1 172 engine as it’s cable throttle rather than fly by wire. 2005 would work , just more work involved and higher cost.

You’d need a bulge in the bonnet to clear the intake manifold but it has bred one without, just can’t remember how

Leave it standard if your not planning on doing the work yourself. Its quite a bit of work and money to fit any efi engine, and then you will need to do the brakes and suspension to suit more power. Best off enjoying the car for what it is and just roll with the original engine

what size engine is it? ifs its the 1.7 you are getting 90hp from a 780kg car so not too base! you can up to carb to a 40 weber, race exhaust and freeflowing filter and you shoudl be having fun! you can drop a clio engin ein but as mentioned expect to upgrade all the front running gear and ECU!
