Renault 19 Hunting Idle - wheres the ICV?

Hi,

Just got a 1993 19 16v Cab. Nice car except the idle is hunting. Looked on the forums and see that the first place I need to look is the ICV.. but where is it! daft question I know, but I'm new to the 19. is it an easy thing to clean? if cleaning is nor good where can I get one to replace it?

TBH first thing i'd look at is the lambda sensor or the coloant temperature sensor.

Anyway, if you look at the pipe between the air filter and throttle body you'll see a smaller pipe braching off from the filter end, follow this around to the side of the head and you'll come to the ICV on the thermostat housing

Thanks! Whilst I'm there... how do I check the lambda sensor and the coloant temperature sensors?

I bought the car for the old man.. feeling guilty about the idle issue!

Best bet is to disconnect them one at a time and see if it makes any difference

CTS is in the thermostat housing, i need to a pic to show you

erm.. completly! it has no large top where your pic has the writing. Mine looks like an older type engine to the one in the pic.

in other words, yours is not a 16V.

Did you buy it as a 16V?

Oh course. First recommendation would be a Haynes manual, they are normally a few pounds from eBay or charity shops. Although they are sometimes frustrating with their tiny black and white pictures, they are useful in some ways.

You could also try searching this forum, a lot of questions may have been answered before, and besides it's a good read!

Also pictures are always useful, and where are you?

yeah tried my local car shops for the haynes manual... no joy. Have ordered one off of Amazon so fingers crossed it will be here for weekend.

Dunno where the ISCV is on that, but I'd deffo be looking at the lambda first.
