Renault 19 16v MAP sensor issue

Hi all,

I still have a problem with my 19 16v when under load between 1500 and 2000 RPM it wants to stall and there is a loss of power and it also idles at 1200 RPM. After 2000 RPM it seems to clear and as you can imagine it's a nightmare in traffic plus it gets hot rather quickly due to the idle being high.

I thought it was a vacume issue to start with checked all the pipes and they seem to be ok, ICV is brand new, I changed the inlet manifold and throttle body gaskets, dizzy cap, rotor arm, checked leads, plugs etc... but the problem is still there.

I have found though when I pull the vacume pipe off the MAP sensor and block it the car idles at 850 RMP and it revs alot better with no hesitation under load so I thought that was the problem?

I have purchased a new MAP sensor, put it on my car and the problem is still there...:?

I can run my car with the vacume pipe blocked from the MAP sensor but I know its not going to do it any good plus it seems alot slower at high rev's.

Has anyone got any ideas what is going on with it?

Thank you

Billy

Seen this a few times, namely on 5's with the terrible EFI setup.

Have you checked the TPS is not jammed full open?

Generally if its not the wiring its a duff ecu.

Cheers Chris, I'll have a look at the TPS it's brand new but it might not be set up properly... :(

I have it revving at 1000rpm now with adjusting the TPS, it's still cutting out at lights etc... if I don't give it a quick rev before I dip the clutch and slow down.

If I tap the throttle pedal it wants to die but then it clears? Still a pain in traffic, it's the same from cold or warmed up...

Possibly lambda? I have unplugged it and nothing has happened?

I have read just about every thread on here and tried pretty much everything but the hesitation is still there no matter what. I unplugged the IAT sensor and nothing happened and I also unplugged the CTS and nothing happened?

I am getting fed up with it now lol a friend has a hand held diagnostic machine he is going to plug in tomorrow, hopefully I will get some results.

One other thing... the temp gauge on my car reads between 3 quarters and full at normal operating temp is this correct?, it doesn't take long to heat up and fan works as it should, I have a brand new thermostat too. My other 19 16v ran alot cooler, is this anything to worry about? The gauge never reads below 3 quarter even on a motorway run.

Thanks

Cheers for that guy's, I have been up to my friends workshop today and he plugged his diagnostic thing in. The results show the car is over fuelling and the IAT and the CTS are sending no signal to the ECU. I have ordered them both for Monday and hopefully that will be job done.

Will this make a difference to the running temp? If not is there anyway to bring the temp down?

The sender might be faulty, I think I will get a new one of them at the same time as the other two.

The ICV on the car is brand new Chris luckily.

Cheers

I’d be inclined to fix the broken wire first.

BTW the sensors should default to 25 deg and 86 degrees if missing or faulty which won't cause the issue your having.

However since the map, cts and ait all bus off a wire I would be looking for a broken wire or a heavily corroded one.

Is there anywhere in the loom I should be looking? I've had the inlet manifold off and the wiring seems ok below it but I didn't look to hard if you know what I mean...

Have you had a similar experience?

cheers

I have a billion similar experiences in a variety of vehicles.

Grab the loom and wobble it all over to see if anything changes. Thats the best way to start.

I'll start trying that, do you have a 5 aswell? I used to work up at Kinglassie with mike a good few years back building the 5's before joining the railway.

Did you ever come across to the yard?

Cheers

yeah been to the yard a few times. never owned a 5 though.

When I was there it was him and once or twice his old man popped in. This was years back

Back in 2007/08 I was there pretty much all the time and I used to help him out at in the day time when I started nights on track. I thought I might of bumped into you at somepoint.
