removing front wheels...brute force???

ok...i know this is a very common problem..but i want to get my wheels off to clean the arches and inner wheels...it took my dad and me over 2 hours just to get the rear 2 wheels off, using lots of WD40, a mallet and a wooden post...very frustrating...we really had to thump it with big force for it to finally free from the rusty lip the wheels sit on..

so now for the front..and they appear to be just as stuck..but im worried the force will damage or alter the steering or geometry?!

how did you lot overcome the front wheels? [smilie=dunno1.gif]

Jacked the car up securely, took all bolts out except one which is left on its last couple of
threads, rotate the wheel and boot the tyre all the way round until it frees up.

Refit with good old copper grease :D

Had the same problem with all 4 of mine the guy in the body shop just lay on his back under the car (that was on a lift) and kicked them off whilst another guy held the wheel !!!

Only problem with that was that when one of them came off the caliper caught the inside of one of the wheels and scratched it, I was having it refured so not a problem but otherwise I would have been pissed !!!

As per Mossy's ideas, remove all wheel nuts apart from one which you leave loose. Then I have a big rubber mallet which I use to whack the wheel rim as you rotate the wheel round.

got them all off now!!! woohoo!!! i felt like id won the lottery!

needed a wire brush and sandpaper to clean the hubs up..and a healthy smattering of copaslip! :approve:

The wheel nuts comment isn't too far from the truth.
Loosen them off and drive the car back and forth VERY VERY slowly. The wheels should just pop a little but the wheel-bolts will prevent them coming off.
You need to do it VERY slowly but it does work with no damage!!
