Rejuvenated Vee From Scott

I picked up the Liquid Yellow from Scott today after having it's belt service done last week. It needed very little else doing, but the clutch and slave cylinder were replaced as a matter of course. It also had 4 new tyres and a 4 wheel alignment, and the car feels really superb to drive now.

The clutch was good before with a very slight judder, but now it is genuinely the smoothest most progressive clutch I think I've ever used. The car feels really well planted and gives great feedback with the new tyres, and together with the clutch, it feels transformed. Really enjoyed the drive home.

Whilst I was there an Acid Yellow car turned up on a trailer, newly bought. I'd never seen one in the flesh, and it's not Acid Yellow at all,,,,it's Acid Green! Gorgeous colour, and stood next to my Liquid Yellow, it would be hard to choose between them.

Here are a few pics for anybody who hasn't seen a Vee with the engine out. It was the first time for this car as Paul, the previous owner, had it done in situ. The car is in amazing original condition, and the only rust I could see was on the driveshafts, which I doubt were painted when new. The photos show that Renault were pretty mean with their colour coat when painting, only doing the bits that could be seen. But even though a fair bit is not coloured it seems well protected from the elements.

I have been thinking about selling on the Mars Phase 1 this year as I didn't use either car much last year. But driving the Phase 2 car today may just delay those plans!

It's looking very clean and in great order Mark.

Shame you can't come to Silverstone Classic fella. They needed a Ph2 LY (and a Ph1 MR for that matter!)

Very nice and clean underneath Mark :approve:

Must have missed you by minutes as I dropped [v6plaque]002[/v6plaque] off at Scott's around 12:00 noon............

Does that mean you prefer the Phase 1, or that you have second thoughts of parting with either?

2nd thoughts of parting with either Dulan.

If I was to part with one it would be the Phase 1, purely because of the colour and the noisy exhaust of the Phase 2, both of which I love!

But then I get back into the phase 1 and find it so sharp and focused, and quiet, it's a gorgeous car as well. Trouble is, I do feel guilty not driving enough miles in either.

Nice problem to have, I know!

Indeed, that is a nice problem to have..........

I have never driven a Phase 1 Vee in anger, but interesting that you "find it so sharp and focused" when compared to the Phase 2. Are they both running the standard suspension and geometry?

I too have asked Scott to swap the back box on [v6plaque]002[/v6plaque] - the Orbisoud, plus the Mulgari secondary de-cat pipe, is going back in.........the Spike back box was used when I ran [v6plaque]002[/v6plaque] at Goodwood. It is excellent in its own right, especially during long motorway journeys, but I missed the sense of occasion that the Orbisoud provided, so after 3 years I will have a different sounding Vee!

I think that the sharp and focused bit is now only down to the clutch and throttle on the Phase 1 being a fair bit less progressive than on the Phase 2. Now that the Phase 2 has new tyres and the 4 wheel tracking done, something that was done on the Phase 1 just before I bought it, the handling and steering feel is the same. The only modification on the Phase 1 is a modified gear linkage, which makes it feel the same as the Phase 2. I believe that the original Phase 1 linkage was quite a long travel, enabling the driver to bang his hand into the dash if trying for 1st, 3rd or 5th a little aggressively!

Understood........and, as regards the above (highlighted sentance), I believe, this is where the TTV flywheel and Phase 1 clutch comes into play when installed in a Phase 2.

Indeed, I have heard about the long throw on the Phase 1 gearbox, and people crunching their knuckles on the dash!
