Recommend me an OBD reader

As the title really. With the non-standard nature of the car I want to keep on top of things and clear any unwarranted warning lights etc.

Doesn't need to be all singing all dancing, just enough to identify and clear fault codes so, what OBD readers have others gone for then??

senisble idea, after i modded my old one, i got one of these:

Did the job just fine. :approve:

Perfect for turning out that light if you have a decatted exhaust.

Yep got one of these for the decat. Check once a month to make sure only cat faults are on there and there only ever has been iirc

It should be able to reset the ABS light because the electronics on all European cars built since 1996 have the CAN protocol embedded in the memory of the management systems. Gearbox electroncs usually have a seperate port for reading fault codes.

Nigel.

Yes. Or so I'm told.

It arrived today so I'll have a read of the manual and see if it says anything about it.

Might order one anyway to have a play with.

Changing the seats this weekend so was pre-empting setting off the air bag light! :)

Ah I see. The reader will clear the light but as the fault still exists (no resistor in the airbag plugs) it'll just come back on I expect. Resistors are 10 a penny from Maplin so I'd just go down that route, although having said that I drive around with mine on for years not caring!!

I've got some resistors ready to go in but I've read once the fault is triggered it then has to be cleared (even if you then refit the resistors correctly) and given that the resistors look a bit fiddly the chances of me getting it spot on first time are slim! ;)

Ah ok. Yeah, you'll be fine then. Fit resistor, clear the fault code and job done. I;ve heard once the light goes off you get like an extra 10bhp so a worthy "mod". lol ;)

I'm not sure this clears the fault code for airbags ?

Eg I've got this reader and it gives obd error codes like which cylinder is misfiring and clues like trim levels wrong that points to a coil or oxygen sensors etc but you still need to dig online as to what the error could be

As for airbag light for seats - mines on now with recaros because some wire is lose - but this isn't shown on this reader as an error

Usually have to get the dealer to fix the wires then clear the airbag code

If I'm wrong let me know!

Will have a play around and check Wongy. You may be right. I know it can reset service indicators and check engine lights so I'm assuming it can do the same for airbag lights. May be wrong!

Yeah let us know - I normally get the dealer to fix the wires then reset

since they put my seats in I joke with them the repairs still under warranty so fortunately they do this for free :)

It's a good obd reader btw :)

Turns out the on board computer will reset the air-bag light automatically.

Didn't quite have the resistor connected right first time which threw up the warning lights, a quick adjustment and thankfully it is now off. :approve:

Suggests this may not reset the air-bag light as if the light is on, then the fault is still there.

Does this reader give live data. I am looking for one which will give me the reading of all the sensors live?

Have a bluetooth obd reader (ebay £7) linked to the torque andriod app. Allows code reset and live data

Do you know if there is an Apple equivalent of this app or a laptop version?
