Rear break discs

I have dusted down the vee after the winter and the first time I have really used it since I got it a year ago. I went on a 200 mile round trip most of it motorway and when I got back the rear alloys were a lot dirtier with break dust than the front. I have noticed even with a couple of short journeys the rears seem to get hotter than the fronts is this normal ??

I have had the rear callipers stripped and cleaned but it does not seem to have made a difference.

Hi,
It could be that the hand brake mechanism is not fully disengageing causing a small ammount of pressure being exerted on the pads.
You say that the calipers have been stripped and cleaned, is that an external clean or a caliper strip down involving new piston seals?

No it was just really a dxternal clean ie pads out and brake cleaner used on calipers some cooper grease then back togther. The car rolls when the hand brake is not on ???
Do you think that new seals may help and if so any idea who can do it ren stealers want £75.00 an hour + vat for labour !!!!

If the car rolls freely with the brakes off (put a jack under it and see how eaisily the wheels turn) then it is unlikely that this is the cause of the extra dust and heat. The rears run very hot because of the engine temp. just put your hand on the rear tyres after a run and compare with the front. My rear brakes run very hot, on the OE pads the shims shifted on the rear of the pads (there supposed to be glued in place). I have more dust from the front which is what you would expect, are your rear pads of a different make to the fronts?

I agree 100% with ed_harland. The rear anti squeel shims shifted on my clio, the Renaut dealer in Chester wanted to have the car for a day to put them back, went to kwik fit who did the job in 30mins and charged me £11.00. Take it to a break specialist they will do the job right very quickly and not overcharge you because their reputation is gained from doing a proffessional job at reasonable cost.
