rear brake compensators....

sparkie

Well-Known Member
after much umming and arrrhing i've finally started to get my car MOT ready.
only to find i have no rear brakes.
the handbrake works, but the footbrake does nothing at all on either side!
there is a bleed nipple on my compensator, which miraculously came out without shearing off.
however, with a pressure bleeder on the brake reservoir there was nothing coming out of the nipple, but there was fluid up to the compensator.
i have a few compensators, but guess what - none of the appear to be le car 2 turbo/ gordini ones! (different port layout)
so, do i try and source a 2nd hand replacement? or a new one?
or make new brake pipes up and fit a unit i have here (non gordini T)
or use compression fittings on the current pipes, fit a T piece to the back brakes and then fit a manual brake proportioning valve (wilwood style - one port in, one port out) to the rear feed from the master cylinder?

This link is to a French company that will recondition your brake bias valve for about 80 euros plus post.

I have not used them yet but will do so when I have finished stripping my bits car G.D turbo.

I managed to find a new original Bendix valve two
yrs ago but I have never seen another for sale.

The French sell valves from the other 5s as a replacement but still you have to move the pipe work.
Such as this one.
