Ok fella's all this talk about what Filter, what Exhaust, what chip is doing my head in, it all smacks of 'Halfords' WHY don't you go for some proper tuning, start saving your money to put towards something a bit more radical How about a 3.5L conversion by the company that did the formula Renault Tuning and the Clio Trophy world series tuning for a lot of the teams - HUGER MOTEURS - give the fella a ring and ask for Jean-Christophe Mazel, he speaks English, here's the number - 0033243215555 - you might not want to go the the whole Enchilada as below but he also modifies the engine leaving it at 3.0L read this below

Engine modification : Clio V6 to 3,5 L
335/340 CV
With full engine rebuilt
Prix € HT

1 Engine Kit without Pistons 660
1 Oil Filter 11
2 Cylinder Head Tunning 950
6 Pistons 3,5 L 1,260
2 Cameshaft 1,074

24 Valve retainer 280
24 Valve spring 249
24 Mechanical tapets 750
24 Mechanical tapets adjuster 149
1 New programm in ECU 1,400
6 Injector 782
1 Steel Crankshaft 3,5 L 2,850
6 Conroads 1,497
1 Bore engine to 3,5 L 1,000
1 M.O. Moteur 1,750
1 Stronger clutch plate 350

MONTANT TOTAL ,
PREPARATION + PIECES 15,590

Supplément et options

Engine installation in car and test 1,000
Complet exhaust system 2,600

MONTANT TOTAL ,
Moteur remonté dans l'auto 19,190

thats £13,150 to you. This Conversion will be giving approx: 320 BHP or about 295 BHP at the rear wheels, natrually aspirated he also does individual throttle bodies which you can add and that will bump the BHP up to approx' 340 to 350 BHP about 320 BHP at the rear wheel and if you really want a Race car he can source and prepare you a car as well for about 31000 Euro's, So come on lads stop the 'Max Power' crap and do it for real the cars deserve it, it would be nice to see/hear a V6 with some proper BHP - then you'll need to upgrade the brakes and the suspension, but you can do that a bit later when you've got some more dosh
PS.
the 3.5L conversion was what I was about to do before I wrote my VSix off and bought a Porsche 964 RS Clubsport instead but may I just say I do miss the Rennie (but not the handling) anyhow if the 'Stig' can lose it - lets just leave it at that.
HAPPY TUNING

Don't miss the point here, tuning your car isn't a cheap past time, cheap is why Halfords and the like exist, for those who think they're tuning their car's or adding value or individuality but really all your doing is unloading your hard earned cash for very little gain if any, all for a few ooh aahs down the local tescos car park of an evening, your V6's deserve better otherwise I'd leave it alone because it's just superb as it is, it certainly doesn't need bling to make it noticed or heard - save your hard earned cash and go for more BHP (+100 BHP) or maybe you think the car's not worth it, if you had it done it would certainly raise a few eyebrow's mine included go on go get that Bank loan be different

Not a bad price really. Of course you would be wanting better brakes and suspension etc. I would be inclined to have the stopping and handling sorted at the same time.

Is there a 3.5L engine transplant available?

i know nothing about "injuns" mee..but it all sounded good until the £13500 part!

i think everyone knows that the filter/exhaust makes very little if any difference...but for sound factor alone tis the best -£1000 you can spend..

and i find my vee hairy enough on the twisties without giving it M3 quanitities of power

Moderator: sounds like a free trade advert to me?

p.s. Don't forget to add the cost of a Don Palmer driving course to get the best out of a V6.

Its only £187 per bhp.....what you lot moaning about....lol ;) :)

NOS looks even better now I have read that........
300bhp, lots more torque, power only when you need it £1500-£2000 to fit and £55 a bottle.....that would mean if you used a 11 lb bottle every month you could use it for 18 years for the same price as above.....who want to keep there V's for 18 years?? ;)

Simon

NOS is just another bolt on bit, and can only be used for short bursts, it offers no real power increase if the bottles empty, its ok for dragging but little else. James, Huger do a package where you can do an exchange engine format but you would have to speak with jean christophe, go on do it you know you want to just give him a call he's a really nice bloke - by the way I believe Scot from the clio place has something like this from Huger I believe he bought the bits from them to do his own conversion but huger don't like this approach i may be wrong ask scot

well there yer go you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead, i'm sure James does have real upgrades but he did ask the question thank you, anyhow it just seems a shame there's so much 'Halfordising' of V6's going on they'll almost be in the 'Saxo' / 'Corsa' league of cars to own of course that's only my opinion...........such a shame oh well......and colin an M3 is miles better than a V6 IMHO

Point noted Ren. When I read comments like this
For all BMC users.
I notice that the V6 loses a little bit of power after fitting this part.
The noise was avesome, but.....
Now i use the original box again, with a green sporty airfilter pannel.
I do wonder about the Halfordisments.

Fella's all I'm saying is keep it real and keep it Renault V6 if you can't afford to do it properly leave it alone until you can because you really do have a Corking little motor and it's super special as it is. Anyhow that's the Anti Chaving / Halfordising scathing done for today I'll be signing orf Now..........Bye see you at a thread near you soon

Well when I spend £13500 on my V6 it will be to upgrade to a TVR T350 thank you.....

V6 Modded 228bhp per tonne @ £13.5k

TVR T350 std 322bhp per tonne @£13.5k...nice :)

To get a V6 Clio up to that power/weight you would need 450bhp outright power or some serious weight shedding ;)

untill then I may look into N2o, as a good torque increase for short bursts ;)

If money was no object I think more would do it – there are a few on here that have clearly spent dollar doing it. Just for most of us the pockets aren't deep enough. Don't know many petrolheads who would turn their nose up at more power.

There is some Pikey on here though who doesn't believe in 'cheapo' solutions – he might have an upgrade from you. Meantime, what's that uprated clutch? That sounds like something a few of us might need.

Did someone say uprated clutch. YES Please!

The mk2 syndrome: Lots of torque :D , lots of grip :D , slipping clutch

Peter :D

Is this guy a complete spammer or what? First an M3 is far better than a V6, then we have 'a Corking little motor'.

Not even going to bother writing anything else.

Surely it's not a case of "proper" or "Halfords" horsepower - it's what you want of the car.

If it's a road car then I don't see anything wrong in an exhaust to bring out the note and a superchip to make a bit of an improvement to driveability. Neither cost a great deal and neither add a huge amount to the car. Why? Well basically 255 from 3-litres means that the engine is already quite efficient from a naturally aspirated lump. Add 20bhp from Halfords and you are close to the magic 100bhp per litre that is the difficult one to breach cheaply.

Much over 275bhp N/A starts to cost disproportionately both in financial terms and driveability. Cost increases because trick materials are needed - steel cranks, forged pistons etc and driveability suffers when the power band get squeezed to accomodate wilder overlap on the cams.

On a road car, power figures don't matter anywhere near as much as torque and if I ran a V6 on the road and wanted serious power I'd go turbo/supercharger all day long with Nos as an addon if it still wasn't enough. I'd not spend as much as quoted here and I'd have a power curve that I could use. Trying to drive a car that works at high revs on the road and still get the best out of it is fraught with problems, not least the amount of commitment needed to drive on the limit. Forced induction doesn't put anywhere near the internal strain on the motor internals and works best from low down.

All this assumes that you can do something with the handling and brakes and transmission to contain it all - my guess is that ultimately you can't, and that much beyond the Halfords specials (if that's what we are now calling them!) there's little point spending on a V6 as you could spend the money more wisely on an M3, Scooby or Evo.

Unless that is, you think that the car is somehow "interesting" as an engineering challenge or a curio.

Which is why I no longer have a Japanese hairdyer :D

i have nos.....and bmc...
bmc filter was crap until i wrapped it in silver paper...now its fine!! it was getting too hot...
the nos is good cos you got 300 bhp when needed (approx) and just a normal car when not..
kit cost me 500 quid...
i have a 5turbo 1 with high lift cam ..220 bhp it is almost undriveable at low speeds...
