Re: TRAILER SIZES HELP PLEASE

BT clubman not wide enough, my A max is 1.96 wide bed which is as wide as you can get in a lightweight, low level trailer (ie: a trailer with the bed lower than the height of the trailer wheels) and there is only just enough room to comfortably drive/winch a v onto and still have enough space for the tie straps to be safely away from the bodywork. In theory a 1.90 wide A sport will be wide enough but it will mean acurate loading as space will be tight.
Obviously, trailers with a bed sitting over the wheels are a lot wider so there is a lot more choice but they are therefore higher and more difficult to load a low vehicle onto as well as being a lot heavier and requiring a more powerful tow vehicle. hope this helps.

simon get ya facts right tim dosent piss traders off its them that piss him of i.e scott i.e ben if they did what they said they could do there would be no problems

well only the good ones left take a bit of finding but hey im sure you found one or two your self

I Know Bateson Trailers 0161 426 0500 make one as i have looked at buying one, not sure what availability of them second hand is but are definately available new.

We used Brian James TT series trailers - the v will fit on one and the trailer is appropriately rated for the weight. Is this a one off move? If so depending on location I may be able to put you in contact with someone who can help you.

Fair play to you Tim for being frank and detailing a bit about your experience - which I think has not been made public before ...

I'm sure there are always two sides to the story but it can't be easy for anyone, whatever the circumstances, to feel they have been let down and end up significantly out of pocket.

At the end of the day, traders are just people though and probably as you suggest, you have to find one that you can trust with your money and is in tune (sorry for the pun) with what is required. Your experience with Scott and AWT are not necessarily the same as other peoples so perhaps that is why there is support for them from others. That doesn't change your situation though.

I have my own views on people I would use, K-tec being one I would not for example - but many swear by them ...

Hope you get it sorted anyway and the trailer too ...

Martin

Tim, I'm pretty sure Stevo might be able to help on the trailor front. He's usually carrying around RS6's etc so I'm pretty sure his size trailor would cope with a vee.

Probably telling you how to suck eggs but I ran into this prob, if it doesnt apply just ignore, but some info for others; it's worth checking your license when thinking of towing, looking at mine it wont allow me to tow anything bigger than a box trailer without doing a test with the dvla showing I can tow / move about something bigger than a little box trailer confidently - which is a bit unfair seeing as my own vehicle will comfortably pull 4-5 tons. I really ought to book myself in for a test as I could probably make a few quid moving stuff about.

good point, it all depends when you passed your test, oldies here will not need to take a trailer test! ;)

cheapest and easest way is to join in on one of the RAOC's proving days there. Invites are normally posted in the local meetings or trackdays thread here. May be another one in October although the summer one was canceled due to lack of interest.
