Re-torquing head bolts after a HG fix

Evening fellows,

When Dan and I fitted the HG on the Coupé back before christmas we of course revised the procedure in the old Haynes after checking on here what the pattern was.
I was wondering whether with these particular engines if the re-torque after bedding in was recommended. The old Haynes procedure for re-torquing was as long as a further 20-odd steps! We just didn't have time for it. So the last time I touched the bolts was angle tightening to the 107 degrees.


What's the consensus?

It's fine just torquing to the 107 degrees.

The F7P procedure doesnt call for re-torquing at all and the engine isnt different in any significant way.

he means he just fitted it torqued to 107 and left it.

not the full torque all to 107 slacken and re tighten each in turn.

the first 107 is to compress the gasket properly, leave an hour or so then do it again.

anyway if its not leaked by now its not going to.

I think he's done the 30NM, 50NM, wait a few mins, slacken off, then 25NM, then 107 degrees as per F7P instructions.

The F7R instructions also go on to specify running the engine for a while and then do a load of extra fannying about. That's the bit he's skipped, if I'm understanding it right.

Neal's guessed it right. I know about the right torque patterns and relaxing the first stages during rebuild but i wasn't sure if there were reports around that it's better off running it in and re-torquing rather than leaving it.
