Re: Nitrogen in tyres

No need for it really. Only road car I know of that has it is the new skyline. Tyres permit a little level of molecular exchange, in a few months what was pure nitrogen becomes common air. Stick to checking them once a week.

Just buy some green valve caps and replace you black ones and then everybody will think you paid the extra anyhow ;).

Very worthwhile if you have split rims or your a regular 1/4 miler. You find that the wheels loose less pressure over time through the center seals. As far as a performance point of veiw is concerned it helps when the tyre heats up and cools down as you maintain a more constant tyre pressure.

Bollocks for a road car!!

An excellent thing to do in the kart tyres, really helps to regulate the temperatures throughout a race.

I'm thinking about a 80% nitrogen fill, so i'll use a footpump!
remember air is 80% nitrogen anyway with 19% oxygen, so how does that work?
how do they get the existing air from the tyre? seems like someones making a corner here!

Perhaps a transfusion using non return valves?

Helium would reduce the unsprung weight of the air in your tyres by 7 times. Hydrogen by 14 times plus the fun of an extra boost when your tyres get hot ;).

Theoretically 80% of your tyre is filled with nitrogen. The other 20% is air of which 80% (actually 78.09% but ignore that) is nitrogen. Therefore 80% plus another 16% nitrogen = 96% nitrogen! Pointless calculation but I just had to work it out!

Does this mean your tyres are inflated to 5 atmospheres or 4? i thought the fill would be 66% if you are running 2 bar pressure.................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........yawn ive gone to sleep.zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
still a load of bo**ox.

from what i know
when i was running in autox, the heat will add pressure in the tires, so when the pressure is different, the car will behave differently
so we will release to the optimum pressure after each run, and pump it back up after the tires had cool down

so it will be good if you run nitrogen in that situation...

I dont know mate I know sweet FA about cars. Its like I said a pointless calculation I just had an urge to do! I did physics A-level at school in sixth form. I was going for an A then it got all complicated and a tad difficult so just need 20 marks of my last two exams to get a B so didnt bother and got a B!!
