R5 Alpine electronic power steering on ebay France

Mr Phildini,

You've not driven my car then?!

I may not be a muscle builder, but I found the steering on my Gordini T to be way too hard - so much so that I couldn't drive quickly for any period without needing a rest break!

Power steering makes SUCH a difference to the car - it's transformed.

In order to fit the electric PAS you'd have to modify the car's bodywork around the pedal box (I think).

The way I have done it is (probably) simpler - using a TX power rack and an electric pump from a Citroen Saxo/Peugeot 106. Many other mods were necessary to make it all work, but work it does!

(Except I now need to slightly re-site the turbo oil drain - been meaning to do that for months!)

Sorry Andrew,
I still could not be bothered to go through all that palava, my Alpine GTA which is a lot heavier does not have power steering, which I much prefer, and yes, yes I know the engine is in the back but the fuel tank is in the front and full up it's around 70 litres.
If you find it too hard to turn it, pump your front tyres up to 40psi

Phil, you clearly have never tried to stay in control of 140 bhp from a cammy engine with a harsh LSD and wide tarmac tyres on a narrow, bumpy alpine lane, when driving flat out on a rally!!!

I can tell you from experience that power steering allows you to drive nearer the limit in these places, as without it you ease off a bit in case the LSD snatches and steers you off the road ...

Incidentally, who else knows that the early R5s like my 1974 TL had a quicker rack (about 3.75 turns, from memory) than later cars which are about 4 turns?
