Query about oil warning light on dash

I quick question regaring the oil light in the centre of the dash ,

After I switch my ignition on (Not starting) All relevent dash warning lights in the centre of the clusher remain light for approximatly 3 seconds then extinguish ,the remaining lights on are STOP, SERV handbrake and battery,
My question is, should the oil light remain on, then only extinguish when the engine is started?

Chris

From the handbook if this helps.

Multifunction display
Oil level display function
The vehicle must be parked on
level ground and the engine
should have been switched off
for some time beforehand to
obtain an accurate level
reading.
When ignition has been
switched on for approximately
30 seconds:
- if the level is correct, the
display will show “oil ok”
- when the minimum oil level
is reached: the word “ok” is
no longer displayed, the
dashes and the word “oil”
flash and the SERV warning
light comes on until the
ignition is switched off.
Top up as soon as possible.

Thanks for the info,
I think this is refering to the LCD display, on the right hand clock.
My query was the small red oil can icon in the Centre of the instrument panel (between the clocks)

Yes is the answer to this, oil light should stay lit until started and then goes out after 1 second.

I've just walked in to the biggest cobweb in the garage trying to answer this, I now have a hair net!

Thanks for the info ,

I think i may have a faulty oil pressure switch, which isnt earthing to alluminate the light at zero pressure,

I will check it out tomorrow. good luck removing the hair net.
