19 Project Turbo Shed - sponsored by Bosch PWS850-125

I pulled the rear spoiler off the other day, was quite nice to see the factory fresh shiny bright red paint on the patches that were covered by it. Must have been a relatively nice looking car when new.

Another little bracket taken care of this morning. Fuel filter this time.

Previously hanging from a brake pipe by some cable ties

Bit of angle channel and a big jubilee has it secured now.

Running out of things to do!

I zip tied mine to the pillar because it took my line of sight too far away from the road lower down. I took one look at it mounted lower and I was like "Thats a crash waiting to happen".

Went out with a mate for a drive around, did a couple of laps of the back roads to bed in some new discs/pads. Then got bold and put my foot down, this happened and I had to call the missus to bring the trusty diesel Pug and some rope to tow it home.

So... it turns out that gas pipe isn't a suitable driveshaft splicing material. Who knew?

Still, they served their purpose of letting me confirm the lengths are correct so I can get proper ones made. Also looking on the positive side, the engine is several years overdue a belt. So while the new shafts are being made I'll change the belt. Having no driveshafts will save the temptation to go out for a play.

All good fun!

Well that's a pretty big list to be fair but I had always planned to get proper shafts made. I had hoped these would last a bit longer than they have though!

Just glad the broken one wasnt able to flail around and smash other stuff up

So I did the belt this morning since I have no idea when it was done last and if the 5 year interval was observed it would have been due 3 years ago.

More bits!

Cambelt kit, water pump and aux tensioner. Picked all this up a few months ago when Amazon were having a car parts clearout. Was crazy, think I paid about £13 for the cambelt kit and £6 for the aux tensioner. The 2 cam puilley nuts were pleasingly non-gougey priced from the local dealer.

The job was actually pretty easy, plenty of space in the 19. Surprisingly the timing was actually spot on when I locked it up and no tippex in sight.

New stuff fitted:

Interestingly, my cheapo £6 'Triscan' tensioner is made by 'Litens' who are the Renault OEM. Only difference is that it has the Renault logo and part number machined off. Which is an extra manufacturing step, so technically this cheapo aftermarket part was more expensive to make than the exact same OE one. I dunno, automotive supply chains, weird.

Finally got my driveshafts from Berrisfords - 5 weeks after being quoted 2-3 weeks.

All looks great... until you try to fit the CV joint retaining spring clips. Slot on original shafts 2mm, slot on these new shafts 1.5mm. It's not like they didn't have all the parts in their possession to check either.

Beyond a fucking joke.

Tempted to just do a credit card chargeback on these as unfit for purpose and get some made elsewhere as they've pissed me about :ireful2.gif:

How very frustrating. I'd give them the opportunity to resolve, after all they are bespoke parts and it doesn't always go perfectly first time.

The 'bespoke parts' excuse doesn't work when you've got the two bits that need to slot together right there in your hands and it's the work of mere seconds to check that they do indeed slot together.

But yeah I'll give them the opportunity. Or I suppose I could grind half a mil off the spring clips...

I would also be.....well a bit miffed and agree no excuse if they have old items

As per Dave would give them the opportunity to resolve but I would expect some kind of refund for the delay and quality issue

No good to you now but I always use DaveMac Propshafts in Coventry and always had a brilliant service on custom bits, get CAD drawing to support my blue peter drawings etc

Next issue.
There's no groove for the spring clip inside the CV, it just pings open when it gets to the other end of the CV yoke. What stops it from continuing further down? Well, on the standard shafts there's a stop at the inner end of the spline.

Guess what, no stop on these berrisford shafts, so they can basically float a few mm in the CV.

Chuffing tight in there as well, probably due to the spline being 0.2mm larger diameter. This is the most basic of basic stuff.

Piss poor.
