Problem filling car with coolant?

Fired up the ol' girl today for the first time in two years.Sequence went intermittent spark, fired up,hunted a lot and needed choke to keep going, then as if by magic after 5 minutes of running it magically cleared itself?Anyway, back to the coolant.System was completely empty so it was a total refill.I know the routine for these roughly as i've had 5 GT turbos. What was happening was after i had filled the expansion bottle to the required level, then the radiator i fired her up.Up to a point the coolant in teh radiator was going down slowly and i was filling as it was going, evry now and again it would rise up and spill out but overall it was going fine. Then the water started spurting out and wouldn't stop!I had to switch it off.Is the cause for this teh fact i can only find one bleed screw on the car?(The matrix one)there doesn't seem to be another one where there should be one according to the Haynes manual,to the right of the cylinder head looking from the front of the car?Is the water spouting back out the radiator because the other part of the system isn't getting bled properly?

There should be one at the front end of the head on a rubber pipe, on the carb side (assuming this is a crossflow) Make sure the heater valve is on and that the thermostat isnt seized shut. You can bleed it without running it when its hot by holding the bottle as high as you can above your head and getting some one to open the bleed valves for you. The brass one by the head is really easy to drop.

Im absolutely 100% sure there isn't a second bleed screw which is weird?I've checked all teh hoses throroughly.Just discovered my thermostat is jammed shut, didn't open when i tested it.It was one of the first things i bought for the car too, just jammed with sitting still for so long.

Its pretty obvious, you cant miss it. Someone could have changed the pipe in the past for one without the bleed screw?

As far as I know they all had two, so best you get the pipe with the bleeder in. If its not bled it can boil, and that will be curtains.

only the atmo have that 2nd bleed screw as far as i know,, never seen one on a turbo,,,the matrix bleed valve will do the job no problem as long as heater is on hot to circulate.

Mr Dini he is right, but remember fill via the radiator first, then lift bottle up as far as it will go and carry on filling up. Run the car then open bleed screw. Like Mr Dini said make sure the heater matrix is set on hot. Turbo only have ONE bleed point.... FACT.

I done it by the Haynes manual.Fill expansion tank to 32mm over max, then fill radiator to teh brim, fire up car with the bleed screw open and fill radiator as it drops.I remembered to lift the expansion tank high, got it tied to the bonnet. But ofcourse all this was irrelevant today as my thermostats knackered,i'll let you know how i get on tomorrow.Just as a matter of interest does anyone know a ball park position for the carburettor mixture screw on a turbo? Before i stripped the carb it was 1 and three quarters out but the cars hunting a lot, revs rising and falling?Ok when chokes out though.

That part number is for a radiator for a GT turbo! How efficient did i feel rattling off that number to them on the phone? Not very!Anyway, managed to track one down, you'll never guess where?Halford's!Last place in the world i would have called but just called them for the hell of it.

ive never had much luck with the standard carb adjusting, before i done away with mine i was having trouble getting the car to run consistently, one day i would set it up to idle nice and low say 900rpm, the next day it would be all different again idling at 1400 and up and down ,, i do think the jetting had been altered on my carb which might of added to the problem....if you have fitted a carb service kit might be worth removing/ cleaning/ reffiting your idle jet a couple of times running car in between.

Car is running great just now!Only thing is the connections on the Ignition module were slightly corroded, covered in gunk.Cleaned them up and its idling nice and steady!Just going up and down very, very slighty like a normal car would.I meant to put another filter just before the carb on the fuel line just incase there was any crap in the old fuel that was in the tank, although i did stick in some high octane unleaded to the old stuff to give it a kick!I might take the idle jet out again just to make sure it's 100%,then i'll fit another fuel filter.
