Hello All,

Coming home tonight I decided to give it a bit of beans from a standing start... All was ok until i slowed down to negotiate a T-Junction and my steering was extremely heavy. I assumed that the car had thrown a belt so I limped home... Anyway I've had a good look and the belts still there (I thought there might of been more than 1 belt) Anyway I've checked the fluid level and its fine and there are no major leaks anywhere...

So I can only assume its the pump?!?

I didn't realise pumps would just let go like that, I thought they would become less efficient over time before giving up...

So, does anyone know anything else I can check, or is there a way to test the pump before removing it?

If it is the pump wheres the best place to get one these days, and if its Reno can a Laguna pump be used?

Part number would be a winner too :)

Cheers Ashy.

IIRC power steering systems are operational to the very last moments of total failure. either it pump fail or fluid leak.....check ya fluids and get it to a dealer...

theres plenty of fluid in there, it must be the pump... I'm not taking it to the dealer they'll have my eyes out!!

P.S. think I may have seen you around the Chester-le-Street / Arnison area... The Wife's mother lives in Newton Hall and we live in Ouston so quite often go whizzing along the bypass...

Big thanks to v6Max who help out in a big way with his spare pump :approve:

I fitted it today and now have power steering again [smilie=bunny_4.gif]

Anyway, I found out what had happened to stop the old pump from working.... The shaft had sheared in half [smilie=badpc.gif] Has any one else had this problem? surely the shafts should last more than 5 years and 25000 miles?
