Possibly one less Porsche 918 Spyder left......

One of the worldwide total of 918 cars built will now most certainly be written off! LINK

Cause is unknown, as yet, but fuel dropping on the exposed exhaust is suspected/rumoured. Such a shame............ :(

LOL Simon, sad isn't it - a LaFerrari too had gone up in flames a few weeks ago, so that leaves the McLaren P1....let's see :)

Odds on the exhaust causing it?
May well be the case.

If you think about it the fuel filler cap is at the same height as the exhaust opening, on the N/S panel/headrest surround/roll over protection structure. So if the driver was careless and dropped some fuel into the (hot) exhaust opening, well.....................

Looking at the layout, a fuel hose carelessly waved about could so easily 'anoint' the exhaust, going down alongside the exhaust and 'Whoops, we have an Inferno!' probably not helped by wearing super cool shades in the dark! I would be more bothered about the petrol station going up as is seems that the pump alongside was cooking merrily away! On a positive note, great for locals, free bar-b-que, roll up!!,,,,roll up!!! and bring your burgers with you

They would've isolated that pump immediately there was a fire, so not much chance of a Hollywood style petrol station explosion.

Even with the pumps isolated, the hydrocarbon inventory on that forecourt would be frightening enough, once the tank on the porker ruptures the spill and flood would create a substantial pool fire that could still trigger adjacent vehicles, pumps and hoses, still could be quite exciting! You would be amazed at how little petrol can cause a conflagration, Piper Alpha was less than three tonnes of gas and crude that set that off!
