today noticed that when car was cold, left overnight or whilst at work 7 hrs or more the car spluttered when accelerating ( not booting it) just moving at 25 mph there was a pause in power, however been out tonight and let it warm up and has not done it since, has been pissing down round here
any ideas?

No expert Geordie...:roll: :lol: ....and I am sure there's plenty on here who will give you much better advice....but here's my two-penneth...!! :D :D

* Coil?
* Is the engine light intermittent (flashing?)
* Plugs?
* Throttle body issues?
* Fly wheel sensor?
* Injector/ insulation problem?
* Moisture/rain etc., near the ignition

Mine does that when cold, not spluttering but little jolty if I apply to much throttle when it's cold.

So does my Punto and Merc though? Once it's a little warmer (before it even gets to 1 notch on the temp gauge) it's fine.

Didn't think there was any issue though? Just that it's cold.

I have the same problem when its cold but is fine after a few minutes. I've always put it down to being cold.

shouldn't really have said spluttering coz it doesn't splutter just the pause in power jurks the car a bit, no lights come on on dash either

Have just realised i had this the other day aswell, when i took it out last weekend. Hadn't driven it for a few days, i thought it was me being a donkey with the clutch and still messing up the biting point etc, but then as you say was fine after about 3 minutes. Please don't say coils , i'm off to Cornwall tonight in the beast!

Cold start injector or sensor ?

Actually I am not sure if the Vee has a separate cold start injector cause it has sequential injection, it will have a sensor though.

Failure of either will typically result in incorrect fuel enrichment which could result is symptoms such as spluttering, poor idling and lumpy low speed acceleration - when the engine is cold.

mine did this though usually when hot e.g. stuttered at certain revs.

no electrical faults were found via ECU diagnostics

eventually tracked down to a fuel pump problem because the car sat in a showroom for six months on low fuel so the fuel pump actually rusted away

hope this helps
