Pole Positions and Cobra Sub frames

Jonny

New Member
Anyone got this set up of recaro pole positions and cobra subframes? I have fitted my pole positions using recaro sub frames but they are far too high, are the cobra ones much lower? Also do the recaro side mounts bolt straight onto the cobra sub frames?

Yeh they do, they are £170 a pair iirc! I'm kind of sitting on the bubble, do i, don't i...Colin/Alex had his cut down, a bit ghetto, but was only £80, then again, it looks as though he fabricated a difference side mount.

I think i'll go Cobra...They do a std and an Extra low...Not sure what to go for!

do these standard and extra low cobra subframes have sliders to adjust the seat backwards and forward or are they a fixed frame?

I'd agree, I fitted mine and they are miles too high. The seat back is nearly touching the roof!

Forgive me if I'm being slow here but how does fitting different slider rails affect the height? surely it's the mounting brackets that reduce the height?

Here's my modified frames, you can see how much lower the frames are in relation to the sill and the inner side mounts are not the usual silver recaro ones ( although the outer side mounts are :s )

Ideally i'd like to keep both my recro submounts...So i'm beginning to think the Cobra Subframes would be a better option...

I used a set of Cobra subframes to fit my original base mount bucket seats in the Clio - there are pictures in the knowledge base article I wrote here Fitting Aftermarket Seats. They were not FIA compliant but mounted the seats VERY low but this was also because the seat was very shallow also, the car really did feel like a go-kart. Sidemount fittings are probably available or easy to fabricate to them ...

Not sure Ali but, as you can probably see, they couldn't be any lower as the inner mounting rail was literally sat on the floor with only the height of the slider between the floor and seat base (and then allowing for a few mm of subrame thickness). If you are mounting them without sliders the seat base could essentially be as low as the exhaust tunnel. It really did feel almost like you were sat on the floor and I like my driving position so my legs are as straight as possible with minimal knee bending and less pressure on my thighs - my seats were like that.

Can anyone possibly measure up a set of their cobra subframes and send me the dimensions, basically i am looking the size of the flat bar used, the length of each section and the heigh difference between the 2 legs.

Thanks,
Jonny

God! This is a pain in the bum! I think i'm going to leave this until next winter and live with it as it is! Doesn't help that i'm 160miles away from the car!

bump!

Jonny, which route did you go down with this? I'm after getting some different sub frames to lower my new Pole Positions, but I don't want to start messing about fabricating stuff. Are there any lower frames that take the recaros as standard?

thanks
Dan

Sorry, just re read the thread, the cobra frames do take the recaros, but please can someone confirm... no drilling or messing about is required? they just bolt straight on?

Like you Ali I think I'll wait until Nxt winter now and just live with it, my car has been off the road too long now!
