Pinking - Low idle?

Hi folks, noticing a slight pinking sometimes when revs are low. I am guilty of whacking it in 5th when there is no real need.

anyway my idle is way below 1k, perhaps as low as 5/600 what is the idle on a mk1 ment too sit at and do any of you have similar problems?

I noticed a vast improvement with mine when I put shell V power in,
don't know if it's the answer but worth a go next time, !!!

you have a slight air leak i would think...poss manifold gasket or an air pipe off.

what makes you say that clarkie, that aint good!

i do get a faint whistle at 2-3k thought it was the injectors tho, and i seem too be slightly down on power , i will have a look

pinking is a weak mixture or timing too far advanced mate..

no performance car owner should consider putting anything less in their tank .. for the sake of a few pence per ltr and having to plan fuel stops at shell ..its gotta be worth it .. we got 80 more miles out of my brothers audi a4 1.8 on a full tank of shell v power as compared to esso 95 and my pulsar see s better mpg also ..
