Just mindful of the chap who posted here last week saying only his Clio was "dead" but giving no specific information [smilie=icon_eek.gif] Remember that one???
I think I have the same problem....
The day before I sold 166 (Phase2) last week, I went to move it around the drive. Unlocked the car, checked the water level replaced the engine covers, got in, tried to start. All the lights came up on the dash with the ignition on like normal, turned the key and "click" and then nothing.
It had been driven 20 miles earlier that morning and the alternator was working OK. I checked it.
Jumped it off another car, and saw it had a Renault battery in it. I assumed it was the original 6 year old battery and so had it replaced the same day. No further problems and sold the car.
My new one collected last week (132 Phase2) had a brand new battery fitted by the seller as I watched. A couple of days ago (after driving it for 10 miles a few hours before) I went to it and had the SAME problem!. Jumped it, the car started, alternator working, and the didn't have the same problem again....Until this evening.
I started and moved the car earlier today. Went to move it back again earlier this evening.
Put the key in. Turned the ignition on. Dash lights came on as usual. Turned the key...."Click" and nothing.
Turned it off again. Tried again. Starter motor turned over, more slowly than usual, but wouldn't start as the flaming immobiliser had come on arghhhh!
Tried again. "Click" Nothing. No lights, no clock, nothing.
Turned the ignition completely off. The CD Changer started to do it's thing, so I had another go.
Turned the ignition on. The lights on the dash came up bright and almost immediately there was click somewhere on the passenger side I think, and at the same time the ignition lights went dim. Naturally when I tried to start, "Click" and nothing.
Tried to jump start from another car, but I only managed to get the same dash lights on and a click when trying to start the engine.
When you try to lock it, there is only the faintest of clicks from the locking but it doesn't actually lock, and although the immobiliser light is flashing away, I have summised that the battery is flat.
Any ideas???
As I say, this is a brand new battery less than a week old. The wrong battery perhaps. I'll check in the morning.
The only thing that immediately stands out is, as I am sure you know, if you unlock the car and quickly open the door, that tends to set the alarm off in Renaults.
Doesn't happen with this.
Then Saturday I noticed that when you lock the car, you can here the faintest of faint long beeeeeeeeep (you really have to listen hard) that seems to go on for about 2 minutes. Is this normal?
One theory I came up with is that the alarm volume has been turned right down (if this is even possible of course) and the alarm has been going off and running the battery flat....Of course, you'd never know as it's only audible to dogs at the mo.
Nonsense theory or something in it? Waddaureckon???
Any help gratefully received....I forgot to take up the AA's £10 annual Homestart offer the mailed me!

Cheers in advance.
