Sorry, I didnt realise you were the world's leading authority on V6 pricing and future value potential.....

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I would tend to keep my own negative opinions away from a forum where serious potential buyers will do their research prior to buying a car, after all we are a community with a shared interest and driving the prices down is not doing us as a community any favours

Mark, I dont think Steve appreciates the community you speak of, after all he's a car salesman and only interested in putting £ notes in his bank account at the end of the month.

I can't really blame you for wanting to make a buck Steve but your attitude towards pricing of v6s may mean you have less to declare to the taxman at the end of the year!!??

Do you honestly think I have ANY influence on what the big wide world pays for their cars- No, However is it a coincidence that I have no V6 stock or ever kept a V6 for more than 4 weeks as opposed to some who keep private/trade that keep them for long periods of time- Maybe im just lucky eh-

Or maybe its the fact that I study the price of every V6 that sells on PH, EBAY, Autotrader & so on- thats over the last 6-8 years-
At the end of the day as Matt points out in his post it will only take one person to buy this car, so yes theres a chance that it will sell at 23k & I think you overlooked the fact that I said I 'hope' it does sell at that price, however my experiance in watching every single car is that it wont-
Take for example this V6-

Listed on PH last year as a Private Sale- started at 18k, 17750,17500,16900, 16500 & so on- over the period of 6 months or so- finally I guess traded to the above who have now started the ball rolling again on price-
When it gets down to the bottom of their margin they will trade it out-
they do stand a chance of selling oit for 17/16.5k mainly because of the finance aspect & the ability to take a PX-

Is the 3k car thats 23k- really £6k more than the 17k one thats a year newer- I fear not.

The same with the titanium one on Ebay--- I cant remember the miles IIRC 7k?--- up for 20k, 19k,18k, 17k- then Ebay Auction to 16k- reserve not me-

Go back 5 -10 years & people threw money at cars like they were going out of fashion, however the market for hot hatches has been squeezed & also peoples pockets are a lot deeper than before- the general publilc has wised up im afriad....

So - am I some sort of authority- no, do I drive the prices down- LOL no- I think you find on the right car I drive the price up-
If you review the Andrew Smith thread then my price of 25k for the LY is above the asking price.....

Not sure why some of you are shitting on Steve!

Steve just says what is happening and that fact is, no Vee seller is getting the money that they would like for their car.
People can't sell them cheaply and under a proposed market value and this isn't going to change by everyone advertising their cars at a higher value.
The odd one will still sell but the turn over in general will be too slow and people who urgently need cash will not have the time to sell and wait.

Perhaps Steve could be a bit more discreet with his realistic valuations though, I'd hate to advertise mine for 15k only for Steve to say that I'd only get 13k as it's a BG. Anyone joining the forum on the back of my advert would be armed with an instant bargaining tool.

I'm sure that Steve can defend himself of course, but if he wanted to just make bucks only, the Vee wouldn't be high on the list of favoured cars. Just ask ron Hodgson and WSC who have had cars for aaaaages.

If you do just want to hide it in your garage & polish it for eternity in the hope it'll one day be worth more that you paid for it, then:

a) your a saddo
b) you should've got it made of gold or plated
c) make sure it's got some serioulsy real low km's on it, like < 100km

I just bought a 2003 Audi S3, paid 7k for it, at the high end of the price bracket for this model ... Yes, I could have got one for 3-4k, plenty of people saying I was paying too much etc. etc. people telling the seller he was asking too much too. Thing is we all takes our choice and buy the cars which tick the boxes for us as individuals and pay what we think a car is worth to us based on our research and requirements and the market place.

So rather than a dog with high mileage, unknown history, no options, poorly looked after and no modifications ... I have a rare colour (probably the rarest colour - yes the colour things happens with other cars too), it's 2003 so the last year of this model, a lot of factory options, a massive folder of all history, tax discs, MOT's, original sales details, brochures, booklets, all keys, and receipts for nearly 10k of modifications by a reputed tuning company aswell as contact with 4 previous owners ... It is almost mint and really does feel like a new car - which is what I wanted and why I was prepared to pay a premium.

I paid 17.5k (I seem to remember) for my Vee in 2006 at 8k miles, it was never out in the rain and I looked after it very carefully and it was fully serviced, I sold it dicreetly for 15k last year with 21k on it and got what I thought was a fair price and no hassle selling it.

The Vee above may very well be worth the money to someone, we may all say the Vees are worth more but be pragmatic, every car our there is worth something to someone but not the same to everyone !

I tend to agree with Martin, you pay for what you get !
I paid a couple of K over the top for a M3 last year but it was low miles, full history,one owner and absolutly immaculate.
Im happy with what I paid, its a case of if its as good as they say then it might make the money.
In the case of that V6, Im not sure ? Id expect to pay 18 to 20K for a 3K miles V6 so think it is a bit over priced.

So if its worth £18-19k, what sort of twat would put it up for that. The seller would obviously put the price up for X ammount ready for the bartering to start. I've seen lesser cars go for stupid money so anything is possible. My 1960 mk1 Mini will go up for £25k+ should I want to ever sell it. Can you get another mk1 for less than £10k, yes. Could you find cleaner examples for less than £10k, maybe at a push. Could you find one with all the right genuine period parts, race history and low milage, probably not. Would it sit for a while on a £25k asking price, yes. Will someone want the rare opportunity to own an example like it, definatly.

If somebody wants what they are looking at they will buy it. I would have happily paid £30k for Tom0000001. Not because it was 30k more car than a typical ph1, but because I wanted it, REALLY wanted it. If somebody REALLY wants a low milage car, the chances are this will go regardless of what ever market says what.

I think that's part of the point Brett, there maybe a buyer out there for every car and in some cases, like you, the car you want is not for sale yet and when it is you will pay the premium. It goes to show that every owner has their own specific set of requirements and parameters when buying and selling.

Some of us are commenting our opinions on this example and that the likelihood of there being a buyer for this car is simply lower due to some of the factors. It doesn't change the fact that I (probably all of us) would like to see this Vee go for this amount though personally I would not pay this amount ... partly because I would feel a responsibility to keep the mileage low and condition high and therefore not use the car and have my money tied up ... I would also want to validate things like service history further as, low mileage or not, service history to me is important ...

On the point of Tom1, a few of us saw this up for sale a few years ago when it was being offered out to the market (could have been on e-bay) and I for one could have bought it at a reasonable price but had no interest in it though it is a brilliant car and obviously incredibly special, so again it goes to show that different things float different boats ...

I think Brett is bang on! I saw a thread about my car after I joined the club everyone saying it was to much and it won't sell but I phones the seller and payed the asking price!

It someone wants one and that's the best they can find or is forsale at the time then he might get the asking price for it! But saying that it's a bit of a step price!

I am going after 353 and I know I am going to have to pay over the odds for it!

it seems that Vee's like most cars are effected price wise by rarity, colour, who's owned it, condition and sadly personnel circumstances!

Two 2004 Illiads to consider at opposite ends of the market right now:

3,762 miles, 2 previous owners - £21,995. Seems quite high for a blue but obviously worth a try if there's no desperate urgency to sell.
36,000 miles, 7 previous owners - Buy it now on ebay for only another 23hrs at £9,900! If you have to sell quickly, but surely a phase 2 can't be this low!
Surely it's got to be a bargain for someone. That's £12,095 difference. Possibly you could find another one for that as well.

You pay your money you make your choice. The market for these cars is small so owners have a hand in controlling the price and I would expect to pay more for a mint low millage version with history but everyone has different priorities.

I do love that people all go on about how much more ID cars are worth and all really want ID colours, I like them but not many people liked them enough new to put their hand in their pocket and buy one ? Maybe its because the they actually look very nice in the common blue because people like that colour, is ID just over hyped because there aren’t many more than people really liking the colour ?

anyway the car seem ok apart from the lack of detail in the add, also for a mint loved car what happened to the mats ?? The carpet looks to me to show some signs of wear, if you really love your cars you would tend to think it would have mats and considering its always garaged why does it have an outdoor car cover ?
