Phase 1 tire question

Hello guys,

My V6 Phase 1 is in need of some new rubber, anyone experience and knowledge with Michelin PS3?

I have been very happy with the PS2 but maybe it is time to change...

Do the PS3 exist in:

F 225/45/17
R 235/45/17

Thanks a lot for your help
F

I want 2 michelin rears on mine in OEM 235/45 17.

Ideally want some PS2's but struggling to find them. Is the PS3 a worthy alternative or should i be looking elsewhere? Any tyre experts around?

I'm going for Michelin super sports next... They are available in correct sizes for a phase 2 not sure about phase 1's though.

I was led to believe that the super sports were the replacement for the ps2's, not the ps3's. :( I'm finding it confusing.

You are right supersports are the replacement for ps2s.

the Pilot Sport 3 doesn't replace the Pilot Sport 2 as Michelins flagship max performance tyre, it replaces the Pilot Exalto PE2 which is "just" a normal performance summer tyre.

Michelin's in-house testing, performed at the Michelin Technology Center, helped identify six key areas in which the Michelin Pilot Super Sport outperforms its predecessor, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2:

* Road-holding on dry surfaces: Tests showed a 1.5-second gain on a 2,700-meter closed-circuit track.
* Braking on dry surfaces: When decelerating from 100 km/h to a full stop, braking distance was shortened by 1.5 meters.
* Road-holding on wet surfaces: Time was reduced by 2.5 seconds on a 4,100-meter closed-circuit track.
* Braking on wet roads: When decelerating from 80 to 10 km/h, braking distance was shortened by 3 meters.
* Total mileage on the track: 50% more laps.
* Total mileage on the road: 10% greater distance.

Looks like supersport replaced ps2. And ps3 where just for more comfort ride, a step back towards more 'normal' road tyres. .

Hello James,

We got the feedback that the PS2 was not possible in the original size that is why we went for the 225 option

Maybe it differs on the UK market?

Go for the wider tyres. Not oem sizes! The car feels and handle much much better imo and looks that little bit more planted.

Am i right in saying that a 255/40 R17 Y (94) would fit the standard phase one rear wheel? Black circle have ps2s in stock at this size.

Would this make the 205/50 R17 on the front look like a ballon?

I used 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 on the standars wheels Duncan. They look better in my opinion and 100%, definatly perform better.

Supersports are OEM fit on my M135i and they are amazing tyres, BUT they have one downside; they pick up millions of stones and throw them up into the arches on rural roads! It's embarrassing when you have passengers,

People who switched to winter tyres noted that the problem vanished, and re appeared when they refitted the SS!

Camskill have an offer with Michelin tyres. £50 fuel gift card when you buy 2 or more Michelins. May be the time to buy two fronts and rear supersports separately and get two £50 cards!! Bargain. I think its 2.99 delivery so an extra £47 worth of fuel just by splitting the order in two :)
