Hi all

New to the forum and I have decided to sell my clio V6 but to make it a nicer car i need to replace a sticking passenger rear brake caliper, I have tried to find some and local parts places but I cant seem to get the right 1, it has a hole at the top for a slide and a pin at the bottom

I’ve found simple issues are invariably complex due to the obscurity of the Vee. SGM has expertise that has made my Vee ownership pain-free and enjoyable.

Searching this forum is another good resource though. I think the Vee rear calliper and the front Citroen XM had a certain likeness? Again, the information should be available with a decent search...

eBay, plenty of seal and piston kits, just make sure you get correct diameter piston. Same as loads of Citroen’s :approve:

This is the information we have on rear brake callipers in the KB....any further details we can nail down I'd love to add to KB :

Lastest update on the rear brakes, after buying a set of 93 citreon XM front brakes, they are the same aaprt from a bit of machining on the caliper mount, why its there who knows it's not a clearance problem. Maybe its so Renault can charge 20 times as much for them.

So seal kits and spares are available on the web for these under the XM lists, also likely the Citreon Xsara calipers are the same too but the caliper mount and pad holder are different as they take a smaller pad.

Big Red do seal kits and BRakeparts on-line do calipers and all the spare parts. brakeparts on line go for vin 5229 on

Ben that is correct. I ended up buying refurbished ones from SGM and they were easy to fit once i understood that I should disconnect the brake line that is connected in the wheel well and not directly on the calliper itself.

So buy a set from SGM and make if easy for yourself.

One of mine had a worn handbrake mech, I popped the unit off and sent it to a mate for a full recon. Came back like new, no issues since. Can put you in touch if you want it doing.

Yes Citroen XM front calipers on the rear. I've just completely rebuilt my rear calipers after one had partially seized & was heavily binding. I bought the Citroen XM seal kits from "Big Red" & it's worked out great (the piston on the V6 is 57mm diameter). I stripped & overhauled the handbrake cam mechanism as there is an "o" ring on the shaft that should also be replaced plus if the big rubber boot has not been fitted well moisture gets inside & rusts a lot of parts which will need cleaning, the cam plate & disc springs in particular. I would recommend putting a thin cable tie around the boot where it sits in the groove to seal it well. Putting the cam mech back together is a bit tricky & needs the use of a press to hold the shaft down while you fit the wire spring & cam plate back in (hardest part of the job). Don't forget to use lots of grease on all the parts. You can also replace the DU bushes for the handbrake rod & for the main slide pin but mine were fine so i left them as is. There is an "o" ring inside the piston wind back mech which should be replaced as well. The piston seal fitment was easy, just make sure any rust & dirt build up are carefully removed from the bore/seal grooves & clean it all like a hospital before you fit the seal & piston. Use brake fluid to lube the seal when you fit the piston, don't use rubber grease etc as it causes too much sticktion when you have to wind the piston back in. Fit the large dust seal last, it presses in place & then wd40 it on the outside to carefully feed the lip of the dust seal back on itself so it sits inside when the piston is wound all the way back in. If anyone is going to attempt it themselves & they want some tips or info then fee free get in touch. Good luck, Jules.

Thanks jules. This little description will be going in the knowledge base over the weekend. Don’t suppose you took any photos of the processes?

Hi Ben. No sorry, i didn't take any pictures... dohhhh, should have done really. I only did the O/S one yesterday so when i do the N/S one i'll take some pictures. Sorry, i just realised this area of the forum is for just chat & not technical eh ? Hope that's ok. Jules.

No worries. Would be great if you can get photos of the other side. Can make a comprehensive guide then [emoji106]
