Phase 1 - No spark, No Injector (has fuel pressure)

Just did a cam belt service on the PH1 and engine is back in. It cranks over but does not get spark and injectors are not working. There is fuel pressure.

Anyone have problems with this? Could it be an immobilizor issue?
The immobilizor light on dash is functioning as it should though...

Hmmm there are three earthing straps that I verified... two smallish ones with a 10mm bolt and one larger braided with a 15mm bolt.

I'm thinking maybe the cam or crank position sensors but they are both plugged in. I doubt they could have gone bad as the car ran fine before.

Have a look at the crank positioning sensor on the gearbox bell housing. If the ECU doesn't know where the crank is or even if it's moving, it won't send a signal to the ignition and fuel.

Will double check the crank sensor... really didn't have any need to unplug it.

Also where in the cam position sensor located?

Thanks all for the help

Have you plugged in an OBD2 diagnostic reader ? Usually good at telling you if any sensors/actuators are faulty or unplugged etc.

I have a very simple OBD2 scanner... only code was misfire which I think was from the bad coilpacks which were also just changed out.

Maybe with a better scanner I could get more info. Good thought!

PS.... ST165 eh? I also have one here in Canada ;)

I would hazard a guess if all cylinders are impacted then (excluding fuel supply issues) a major sensor is at fault or key power sources, like Brett suggests a crank sensor or maybe a fused link or power/earth. A better OBD reader might throw more light on it. A single cylinder misfire would tend to be a coil pack or spark plug - something localised.

Yes the ST165 is a super project car (I like the ST165 the most of all GT4's) ... Not done much for a while, but is intended to be rally replica of the 91 Monte Carlo car. Had quite a few GT4's over the years, including a previous ST165 - check out my web-site http://www.k1ano.co.uk :race:

100% it was a major sensor. The crank sensor was replaced at some point with a non-genuine one and the wiring was homemade... long story short, one of the wires came off the pin at the sensor conector. Car is now running like a champ.

Thanks All!!

Really good website k1ano! I've been there before and never noticed your Clio mentioned. I have a '88 ST165, '92 RC and '94 WRC ... I love them all but the ST165 is really special to me for some reason. We imported it from Switzerland and the others came from Japan.

Where are you located? I just sold my celica and I have a clio as well. My celica I brought in from Italy. My Clio from Japan
I am just north of Toronto
