Phase 1 door speakers & door card bond

Hi everyone.

Can anyone tell me exactly what door speakers the phase 1 Vs came with from the factory ?, standard Clio ones ? does anyone have a picture of one ?

I'm also fitting better condition door cards. Mine have been hacked about for bigger speakers, I'm taking out the aftermarket speakers & i want to put as close to original back in & put the original speaker plugs back on the loom.

Also all those who have ever had their door cards off for the first time since new..... can you tell me what sealant they used from the factory ? Is it a line of the black round sticky bond around the bottom & sides that was used on the 172 Phase 1s ?

Both my doors have some much harder & stronger (and untidy looking) black Sikaflex type bond on them which does not look original but might be. There was also one of those clear plastic sheets stuck to the drivers door under the door card but i'm pretty sure these were not fitted to any Mk 2 Clios.

I've attached a picture of the original Phase 1 172 door card that i'll be fitting showing the original round black bond & another picture showing what is on my V6 doors.

Any help & info is appreciated as always

Renault did sell the sealer on a roll but you can use black windscreen butyl that comes on a roll .

Hi there. yes i have the Butyl but just wondered if it was originally applied as in my second picture of the door card, my first picture shows my doors with some harder Sikaflex type sealant applied. Just trying to find out what was originally used in the TWR factory in Sweden during assembly.

It was a grey version of butyl from factory , it just stops the water dripping over the sills so needs to be fitted .

Are we not getting a bit carried away with “originality” at the point of trying to match mastics to the original.....once you’ve reverted to standard speakers etc. , it’s more than likely the door cards may never come off again, so just use what you have. It’s the function that matters.

Hi Ben. Well while i'm doing it anyway if i can get the right stuff then why not eh, if not than i'll just use as close as i can get. I would think that they would have used the same stuff from the Renault build stock that was used on the Clio 172 sports & probably all Mk2 Clios built around that time (same as my second pic), I'm sure Renault would have specified the same assembly technique on the V6
