Ph2 Front Bumper project

Active Member
This is wholly Simon Hope's project (rustedandrotten) - but he was kind enough to share the spoils of his efforts at the closing of OrigineRS 2015.

As many of you will be only too aware - the Vee has a habit of clouting the lip of it's front spoiler. Typically this could easily happen over awkward speed humps or steeply cambered multi-storey car parks.
My Vee has done approximately 15k miles - but has been to the paint shop x4 times during that mileage. My body shop identified a hairline crack needing repair along the lip at the last visit.

Things are better now that I have a Russosport front spoiler (which takes the scuffing now).... though I have accepted that there is a risk that pounding this spoiler could result in snapping the front bumper.

Simon has been hoping to replicate the OEM Ph2 bumper with sensible reinforcement in the zones that were vunerable with the original product.
This would have various positive implications:
A Ph2 Vee could wear one without risking damage to the 'no longer available' coveted OEM front bumper.
Folks could get x2 painted at one go - some economy of scale and convenience.
The replacement could take the scuffing for those who don't like the Russosport spoiler look.

Anyway - happy looking. Here is a photographic image of the prototype positioned next to my OEM spare that was used as the cast.

I'll let Simon take up the reporting on developments from here.

Knowing replacement parts are available would make the driving even more fun!
Great project and looks like it's taking shape. :approve:

Miss or less same story with my front bumper kett.
Excellent news these will be available one day
One sold!

Having seen the pre-production version at Origine RS, I have already joined the queue.......

Super effort Simon :salut: Now when can I have one?

Great work Simon ( & Co ) your work looks spot on pal :approve:
I'm sure all your effort and hard work will be appreciated by quite a few members in the coming years as it seems Renault made the bumper 'no longer available'!!!!!

Just glad that I've picked up a couple of spare bumpers during my Wombling times ;)

Thanks Kett! I was hoping to get the next one done with all the mods that were discussed at ORS for the unveiling!!
For info, and as those who have seen it will confirm, the 'replacement' is being done with a mix of slightly more exotic materials and far stronger resins! This results in a much more robust item. Dimensionally it is hopefully better than the OEM ones which on the whole are twisted, damaged and cracked straight from the flimsy box they are delivered in! Weight wise they are the same as OEM so no changes there, we will however probably be able to make some superlight ones though I see no great benefit. First one was done in :lunar: specially for Shaun!
The final production ones will be fully drilled and cut out with polystyrene foam insert if required and should need minimal fettling to fit.
The aim is also to offer a repair service for these in the event of the brick wall coming off best, due to the construction we should be able to piece together even the most mangled remains.
A certain mangled Acid rear bumper has now been repaired and reinforced and will be becoming the buck for the next major mould production, likewise side pods will be being looked at shortly.
Thats it for now as this will be a project for the winter and a production run will be going ahead once i am totally satisfied that they are perfect :approve: :salut:

Legend!

The word is used and abused far too often but pull this off and I'll pop up to Aberdeen myself and officially give you the title
