Ph1 Shopping list - supplier help

Hi All

After recently becoming an owner of a Ph1 Vee, it’s time to start shopping for a few bits and pieces. But I’m struggling to find suppliers and need your advice. Here is my shopping list:

Steering Wheel (+ Airbag)
Currently, my Vee has an aftermarket steering wheel which I don’t like to look or feel of. I’d like an original or closest equivalent. I read with interest Phil’s post regarding the 182 Trophy LINK wheel on a 255 LINK. Would this also fit the 230? Is it available without CC? I’d prefer something like the 182 Trophy rather than the 197 with red stitching LINK.

Boot carpet
Apologies if referring to the “boot” is a faux pas! I’m struggling to find a part number for this.

Tool box and contents
I need items 1 & 2 from James’ parts list posting LINK.

Lateral grab handle
58A (page 79) from the mechanisms reference guide LINK.
Will a standard Clio handle be the same? There a few to choose from on eBay at the moment.

Instrument panel
There a couple of annoying faulty segments in the bottom right LED display of the instrument panel. According to 83 (page 37) of the electric reference guide LINK only the glass can be replace and if other components fail, the whole unit will need replacing. So I guess I need the whole unit then. If a V6 unit couldn’t be found would one from a different Clio fit/work?

As far as I can see there are 4 options for suppliers: Direct from Renault, 3rd party supplier, breaker or eBay?

On the Dealer list page LINK, I know what a “Main Dealer” is, but not necessarily what an “Independent Specialist” or “Other Supplier” refers to. It would be good if this page could have a little more info what each company can provide e.g. breakers, spares, servicing, maintenance, bodyshop etc....

When searching the net for suppliers, I keep running into the following companies:

• Special Breakers Limited – Shows that they are currently breaking a Vee

• Renault Parts Direct – RPD pops up many times in v6Clio.net forum posts!

Can anyone recommend any suppliers/breakers to contact? Planning to do a bit of a phone around tomorrow to see what I can find.

Steering wheel; Never had the chance to remove a Ph1 wheel but chances are the splines that locate the wheel would be the same. I would think you could swap for a 182 wheel without any real problems. Yes, the Ph2 clio wheels ( ones with rubber thumb grips ) can be fitted with and without CC the only different is the shape of the airbag with a couple of cut-outs for switches.
Paul at RPD could price one up for you if you give him a bell plus you will get some club discount ( cheaper than dealers ) But depends on how deep are your pockets!!!!!!!
Second option would be to source a second hand one off ebay / breakers and get it refurbished.

As for boot carpet, tool box / contents and grab handle depends if your after new or second hand. Paul at RPD should be able to source them all new for you :approve:
If not drop Stephen a nice PM LINK and he may be able to help on on some items when he goes to France next.

The instument panel might be repairable by a good auto electrician and would probably be a lot cheaper than new panel from Renault!!!!!

Special Breakers Limited are a specialist Renault breakers located in Accrington, Lancashire. They have broke probably 5 vees over the last couple of years and there ebay site is here; Ebay link
I've used them many time as there very local to me Better to go to the yard as there ebay prices seem to be a little OTT!!!!!
Renault Parts Direct Paul and his staff at RPD are very helpful and offer a first class service with free P&P and club discounts and I'd recommend them highly to anyone after parts.

Confirmed then a 182 wheel WILL fit a Ph1 vee.

Danny, just a word of warning these 182 wheels have a tendency of falling to bits!!!!!!! The 'leather' on them melts and the thumbgrips rip and peel off. So if buying second hand I'd suggest you see the wheel before parting with your money. Or the refurb option like over on cliosport Wheel re-trim on cliosport

Not sure if you'd be interested but if you want to go back to oem I've just changed my ph1 wheel for an aftermarket. It's in perfect condition.

That looks very like a 172 cup wheel to me. 182's had c/c.

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice. I phoned Paul at RPD and found him to be very helpful - he talked highly of James and the v6Clio.net in general.

Here’s what I’ve managed to source:

Boot carpet: £30 from SBL
Toolbox cover and contents: £20 from SBL
Grab handle: £4 eBay
Instrument panel: £24 eBay (£400+ new!)
Steering wheel: 182 Trophy from RPD
Car mats: not on my original shopping list but from RPD

The breakers did have an original steering wheel but without seeing it to check its condition and Paul advising me not to buy a second hand air bag for safety reasons, I decided to get a new one from RPD as Phil did LINK.

Phew….After that lot and the private V6 number plate I’m a few squid lighter. Think I have gotten over the “new owner, rush and buy loads for it” phase….

Good shopping, Danny. I did the exact same thing when I got my 230 too. It does cool off a little to some extent, but the love just keeps on growing.

Paul at RPD sold me an OEM steering wheel. There may be better out there depending on how you define better of course, but I love it.

You best stay away from the thread about the cheap 18" wheels as you will not be able to resist and I'm sorry if I make things worse, but shit are they an awesome addition to the 230.

Paul says that they you can no longer order the 182 Throphy steering wheel without the CC for my Ph1, but is still looking for an alternative. In the meantime there is a 172/182 wheel on ebay LINK. Needs a re-trim and the buyer will accept £60 for it. Worth a punt and then get it re-trimed?

Don't really know, mate. That wheel looks like a bag of shit to me and not worthy of your fine chariot.

Is your existing one particularly rotted? I quite like the OEM one and I've done at least 3,000 miles in my Vee now. Although, I'm not a good/fast enough driver to benefit from having a different kind of wheel.

You might feel the same once you have got a few Vee miles in.

I have a Ripspeed aftermarket steering wheel which I'm not happy with. Trying to find an OEM one or closest match.

Just spoken to a local trimmer and he can retrim the entire wheel in leather for £120. So that would be £180 in total. If Paul can source a new one in the meantime, I could get this one, trim it and sell it for £180 and not lose anything. But would I get £180?

I very much doubt it. Plus it's a lot of hassle for you.

Charging £60 for a wheel in that state is a bit cheeky imo.

Clio 182 Trophy steering wheel - without cruise control option - 8200237795 - Airbag for this - 8200432120

The reason for this is the steering wheel listed on Dialogys is 8200328375 and this is no longer available.
